I know this subject has been beaten to death, I've read a ton of posts. I'm looking for advice and options on how I should go about figuring this out.
2013 S4 82k Miles. AWE exhaust, APR intake, stock ECU.
Changed the PCV and Thermostat 1000 miles ago
Oil change done on Monday 3/22
Plugs and coils done about 5k ago
Obviously from the title I have engine rattle on not just cold start but on warm start too. To my understanding this is due to oil pressure taking time to get to the chain tensioners and it does die down as soon as my idol dies down about 3-4 seconds. My concern is that the loud ticking goes away, but I can still hear a softer ticking occurring. I do understand that the injectors make lots of noise, this isn't my first German car. It sounds like its coming from the passenger side bank and I think its the the fuel pump. TBH its hard to tell. I also thought I heard ticking form the SC.
This all started happening after the oil change on Monday. It got bad this am. The guy who did the change has owned lots of S4s and Vws, so I do trust him. I need to ask him what kind of filter and oil he put in it. Lets just say he did it incorrectly, would that cause the rattle? What oil would you put in this to maybe stop it the rattle? I've read a few things about this but its conflicting info. I also feel like the engine is much hotter than usual. I cant even touch the SC for long even after 2 hours of sitting. This isn't normal in my experience with the car.
VERY slight rough idol but its been that way since I bought the car (60k Miles)
No codes (using OBD Eleven please give me your option on this device)
Fuel Pressure is at 520ish on idol and 1k on strong throttle
Coolant is around 200 degrees (60 degrees out today) and no loss over the past few days
one time on Tuesday am after a hard drive to work the ticking noise on the passenger side bank will happen than go away for 10secs and it will repeat this.
Is it true the Chain rattle wont cause damage?
How do I start figuring out what the issue is and solve it?
