View Full Version : 2018 Audi S6 some questions about borescope inspection + compression test

So I bought a 2018 S6 recently, and the prior owner leased it and rarely changed the oil. I would like to do a borescope inspection to check the cylinder walls, and possibly the pistons + valves. I will also do a compression test. Both will be done via spark plug removal.
I have a standard automotive tool kit and all the Torx heads I would need, but I put together a parts list for this project and wanted to run it by you guys to see if you think I forgot anything. I've never done a compression test and have to disconnect the ignition at least initially. Do I need any other tools for these jobs?

Borescope
Torque Angle Gauge (In case anything needs to be torqued down to Audi's specs.)
Euro Compression Tester Kit
Silicone Grease - 20 Grams (For the coil pack boots)
Extended 5/8" Spark Plug Socket (To remove the spark plugs)
Combination Feeler Gauge/Spark Plug Gapping Tool (In case I need to regap afterward)
Ignition Coil Pack Puller For Push Down Type (For coil pack removal so that I don't damage the rubber boots)

Would I need anything else for this job besides the above and standard sockets, Torx heads, and hand tools? Dielectric grease perhaps?

Thanks!

I've never had their ice cream and I'm 25 minutes from their spot in Philadelphia. I'm sure my girlfriend won't have any objections either!

Bassetts is sold in surrounding areas too. Delicious. What part of Chester county are you from?

I'm in Wayne, right on the border with KOP. Are you also in Chester County? Would be super cool to go to some car meets when the weather gets warmer.

Yes, I’m in Downingtown. Let’s stay in touch. I have stage 3 plans for the spring.

I thought on your other post you were going to get the service records to see how much the original guy had it in for service? Any luck with those?

Audi service interval is 10,000 miles but synthetic oil will last longer than that, actually at least 15,000 miles for Mobil 1.

As for the procedure, it looks like you have things covered. Some will go a less expensive route for the coil puller and just make a puller from some thin wire. On my 3.0 I can get ahold of them and just pull, no need for a tool.

Here is a DIY for it if you have not seen it yet. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/794437-Spark-plug-change-DIY

For the driver side it looks like the coolant res is in the way per the DIY. (same problem with the 3.0) On my 3.0 I just take the bracket loose at the connection and use a bungee cord to hold it over out of the way.

The only thing you might think about torquing is the plugs when they go back in. Spec is 30 Nm or 22 FT-lb or 265 in-lbs. Pick your poison, its all the same torque just converted.

I've probably seen you around, I worked in Downingtown up until recently. What color S6 do you have? If you want PM me I'll add you on fbook if youre on there. I'm thinking about DS1 and an intake for now then RS7 turbos like you.

Thanks for the info, I'm actually still working on getting the oil change history. The good news is that I called the previous owner and he told me he got his services done locally at an independent shop. I've been playing phone tag with them since mid-last week trying to get his service records. When my plates are ready I might just ask Audi Brooklyn to hold them and I'll take a trip up to NY to pick them up and also get the service records from the shop. The funny thing is I got my fuel door actuator replaced under warranty and the local Audi dealer tried selling me an engine cover for $380 lol. Little did they know I took it off and put it in the trunk when I was looking over what all had to be removed to get to the spark plugs. F'ing ridiculous. I live in a boogie area and an average joe would probably burn that $380 on an engine cover off of them without thinking twice.
