After replacing battery, dealer provide multi point inspection.claims small leak at water pump.I could not see it on video, not has coolant level been dropping.Nor have I added any additional coolant. Is this a way for dealer to make extra money?

Take a look for any white residue on the plastic supercharger pulley cover or nearby hoses. Mine was leaking very slightly and other than a slight smell couldn't really notice. Do they have any pictures?

if still you have the original water pump that came on the car, it is most likely leaking. water pump failure is common on our cars due to the housing being made of plastic. there is an updated pump from audi thats housing is made of aluminum; do the pcv/thermostat while you're there since thats another common failure and the labor overlaps with the water pump job

If the water pump was leaking , wouldn’t I see evidence. On the belly pan . Have not noticed any residue on the pan , nor any drop in coolant reservoir

Leakage was small enough it was almost impossible to see any drop in tank level. Sometimes it is very hard to tell a small leak. I could also smell it when it was really hot out. Plus the diaper on the pan really absorbs a lot making it hard to tell.

Had my car in for an oil change and was told that the water pump was leaking, asked for pictures and the SA sent these via text message.221797

My water pump is aluminum and took a shit on my 2014 at 62k miles. Just had it replaced along with the other stuff a couple weeks ago. It pissed coolant all on the splash tray. Went from max to min. My seal was all flattened on the pump.

i had my plastic one replaced with the aluminum one at 30k miles and the aluminum one started leaking from the seal at 50k miles. i guess this is just what we get for having an audi

FCP Euro has one with a metal impeller, I'd at least get that one. Consider also doing thermostat and PCV at the same time since the supercharger has to come off and all three of those are common failure items. My water pump was leaking at 65k'ish miles and just knocked out all three.

I got the latest revision water pump and it is aluminum but the impeller blade is black plastic. Which ones are metal? I haven’t seen a metal blade one.

Just replaced mine at 29k on a 2015. Got the fcp kit with the oem pump. Wasn’t too labor intensive. Definitely worth it, over the $900 the dealer quoted me. With all the correct tools and parts, still saving big bucks

The impeller doesn’t commonly break though, right? It’s mainly the seal that leaks over time? I wish I would’ve known I put the latest oem revision on mine with the black plastic blade.

Being that there’s so many revision part numbers to the oem pump, I wonder what they actually improved with each revision? Considering that the latest oem revision still features a plastic blade.
