View Full Version : 3.0t inline fuel pump
Hi Guys
I don't really need to know this for a s4.
But since the same applies i have more success asking s4 3.0t owners.
Since there is no LPFP available which gives more flow.
Can a inline fuel pump be added for additional fueling?
My setup is actually a 2.0t ea888.3 which uses the same fuel pump as the 3.0t.
But since it's a EU spec it also has stock MPI.
Which are about 125cc OEM and are upgraded to 980cc.
So the stock pump cannot keep up.
Trying to find out what option there are.
Thanks

I'm interested as well.
Possibly the RS7 pump?

The RS7 LPFP is an option, and someone just posted a thread not long ago on fitting a Walbro in there.
An inline pump could get you more pressure, but something still has to feed it, once the volume of the LPFP is maxed out, that's it, you can't get any more flow out of it regardless of what's downstream.

You’d have to side-strap a Walbro or similar in the tank with the factory pump...which has been done with a custom built setup or a Fuel-It setup. The other option would be to swap out the factory pump that’s in the bucket which has also been done here recently but there are some issues to deal with there as well.

I would definitely do the inline pump over the rs7 hybrid setup . Iv seem more mix data on the hybrid set up to a point that I would recommend it .
I have a 525walbro activated by Hopp switch . It’s set around 7-8psi then the 525 will over take the flow , relaxing the oem pump to low duty cycle .

Isn't the whole problem with this pump setup that there are no actual pumps which can be used to replace them with?
In my case I don't even know if the RS7 would cut it.
Sure bigger engine, but they don't run MPI.
Which is where I am getting stuck.
Would love to use a walbro 535 since i know that will do the trick.
Did anybody ever try if you could change pump controllers so you could use a different pump/basket?
It's just the 3.0t in the B8/b8.5 and in the EU some 2.0t which got this stinking pump setup.
While the b9 use a simpler setup again which you can upgrade whatever way you want.
But I guess would be to easy if you could just grab a controller and pump form one of those and be done with it.

Any info on that setup?
Like how it's installed etc...

The set up is great no fuel issues what so ever .
Heres a thread in more detail ,

Ah the fuel-it kit, being talking to them about that.
Being told that an aem inline pump could work also.
Which would essentially pull almost through the stock pump.
Or use a surge surge basket which is filled by the OEM pump.
And the aem pump is connected to the actual fuel line which used to connect to the oem basket.

Correct , fuel it all it does is provide the nice bracket and accessories to complete the install . The concept is the same

Nice.
I am currently testing a dw440 which is almost a drop-in replacement.
Only need to modify the venturi valve at the bottom before I can properly test it.
But with a PM5 it can do 620lph.

one of the issues that an inline pump alone will not solve is the fact that the stock fueling bucket seems unable refill fast enough and can run dry under high launch g's. the side strap pumps resolve this, the fuel it kit is the direction i would go, comes with bracket and connectors and proper hoses. the giac kit is a joke for the money they ask and doesn't even include proper hoses, just a bundle of uncut corrugated hose (seriously how expensive would it be to just source the 3 hoses with correct lengths and proper flat sections on the end to properly seal.
the giac version imho is trash and has left me stranded on the road twice when the rubber seals they use swelled and split, they are not up to the task to long term in tank use especially with ethanol fuel based on my experience. failed in under 2 years from install. reflects poorly on their whole brand, i see it as cutting corners on critical parts personally.
giac's version is "give us $400-500 for this fuel pump, some hose and wires, and then "good luck with the custom install of these universal parts we slapped "s4 fuel pump kit" on, hope you can figure something out that works cause we can't be bothered to make a writeup for it ourselves"
if you can tell I'm a bit salty, but it's failed me 3 times and i've had to get into the tank 4 times to fix it. twice left me stranded, once on a highway with no shoulder at night, once in an intersection leaving from a stoplight, and failed once in my driveway (luckily while idling tuning the stereo) and the 4th time to say f'k it i'm redoing all the connections i can't afford this stress wondering if it's going to fail any moment.
yes had proper fuel clamps properly tightened each time.
