For those that are interested, here is a startup clip of 2016 RS7 Performance with Milltek non-resonated exhaust. It's relatively loud, but substantially less (20%) than R8 with same style cat-back exhaust; and ~10% quieter than GT3 with same style exhaust.

2016 RS7 Performance Startup - Milltek non-resonated ~101db startup, 75db idle (https://youtu.be/g38aIoGAqEU)
996 GT3 - Fabspeed Muffler Bypass ~107db startup, 101 idle (https://youtu.be/wKcTROlzUgM)
2014 R8 Spyder- Avior Exhaust ~121db startup, 110db idle (https://youtu.be/3jqiApmFsmw)

I know "loud" is subjective, but (IMO), the Milltek is a fairly vanilla exhaust upgrade. Nothing too extreme. It's about as loud as the Mustangs or Challenger/Chargers around. Definitely won't make any neighbors mad around here. Underpass sound is great, but not an assault on your senses.

In terms of sound differential: in comfort mode, it is only slightly more noticeable in the cabin. In Dynamic/Sport, you are absolutely positive you upgraded the exhaust. It fills the cabin (nicely). Burbles, gurgles and pops abound. [I actually fell like there are too many pops/overruns in sport mode - EVERY time you even think about lifting your foot off the gas you get some! ha!]. Overall, a great upgrade and almost necessary, even with the sport exhaust.

Go Catless downpipes and then talk about vanilla!

Even your set up on cold start sounds much better then the warm start you did. I'm not knocking at all... I own the miltek too...just a louder version!

Cool -> if you have db readings, please post. Otherwise it's just a "mine is louder than yours" kind of analysis. How much "louder" your version is can't be quantified otherwise, I suspect.

Fair enough. It's totally qualitative as I went from non res to Catless in two stages... So it was "by ear only" difference detection.

I commend your efforts with the dB reader. I'm not that sophisticated!

I agree with your assessment as RS7 has turbos to muffle exhaust whereas R8/GT3 are NA and by nature louder

i had milltek non-res on my rs7 for about 2 years. I completely agree with your first post.

6 months ago I added 200 cell catted downpipes and its a whole other animal. cold start in my garage... things rattle; both inside the car and outside. once RPMs settle (after about 30 seconds), its "tame". I still feel bad for my neighbors at 5:30am when im going to work. I idle out of my neightborhood. and pops and bangs are closer to sounding like backfires.

I own a Gen 2 R8 V10 Plus with Larini Clubsport and RS7 Performance with Milltek non-resonated. Definitely louder in R8 without a doubt however the RS7 exhaust with Milltek is nice for what it is. This isn't a race car it's a luxury super saloon. If I want to wake the dead with the exhaust on a car like that go buy a Hellcat and roast the tires at 60 MPH.

Here's some fun V10 noises...
