I have been thinking of doing this mod since Iast year. I had a C7.5 A6 3.0t as a loaner and for some reason liked the “Off” “Ready” symbols in the tach for the auto stop/start.
There are a few forum members that did similar speedo mods. Dawid in Europe and bhamcarnut in Alabama. If I use the dials with the Off/Ready the RPM will read off until about 2k.
I did pick up a preface lift grey without…which is the route I am likely to go.
The result will be, Grey dials with red needles, not white.

I just may have to do this myself, I recently picked up an S7 but I really hate the white needles and I was wondering if it would be possible to swap them out. Good luck with your mod and please post some pictures/details.
I mentioned this before and I am still really surprised people dislike the white needles.
I know it is personal taste, but ONLY the S models come with white needles. (Not counting the R8) All the A's and even the RS has red needles. So it is a nice bit of exclusivity for the "S".
None-the-less good luck with the swap. [wrench]

You are right, the white needles are exclusive to the S cars, but those red needles look cool at night. They are gonna really look good against the grey dials. Lol-

The entire cluster needs to be swapped just to change the needles to a different color?

Nadda... I'm changing the dials to grey, will keep my red needles.

Can you remove the S7 from the dials?

I wouldn't mind this mod at all. Keep us posted please.

Yes, but there are small holes in the tach where the badge is set, a couple of members gave some fixes for this. Dawid & bhancarnut provided some good guidance.
I did find 2 clusters one with the off/ready and one without, but decided to use the one without since I want the RPM readings to be spot on. I still think it'll look cool with red needles.

Hmmm, while I'm partial to the white needles, I think the red certainly looks sharp. Especially in your car, it will tie in nicely with your red interior accents!

Looks great! It is very tempting to do this to my cluster as well. Btw this is a great opportunity to polish those light scratches while you have the cluster out.

Audi missed a beat with speedo needles:
1. White/Black dials = A cars
2. Red/Black dials = S cars
3. Red/Grey dials = RS cars
Additionally, Shifters and FB Steering Wheels
Smooth leather = A Cars
Smooth with perforated leather combo = S and S Line
Perforated/ Alcantara = RS
Just my marketing opinion

Was it difficult to take apart the speedometer and remove the needles and replace the dials, any pics or guide welcome

I didn't do it myself, I sent it to a speedo repair shop for the work. There are a couple of members that have done it themselves and mentioned it was easy. I just didn't want to bother.

Stopped by the dealer to see the progress, too cold to take it home.
