DSG service price?

Hi All,

I just got home from my local Audi dealer. I called and made an appointment last week to get the dsg fluid changed. I was quoted 350. I get there today and they wanted 650. all of the local shops i called were somewhere around 350 - 400. Were they just quoting labor? Im genuinely confused here.

$ 350 for DSG service at dealer seems extremely cheap, $ 650 definitely sounds more like it from them.

I have access to a lift. Im going to take care of it myself. The question is, is there any reason i shouldnt use this kit from FCP https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/audi-dsg-transmission-service-kit-39070kt the dealer was only going to change the cartridge filter. The only question i have is around the brand of the fluid. Any issues there? I also want to do my rear and center dif fluids at the same time. Im thinking motul 75w90 or the redline 75w90 or liquimolly fluids.

The Motul Diff 75w90 fluid appears to be popular choice, but I would think the other two are also acceptable.

Thanks for the link! Ive watched a few videos on youtube from DAP and FCP on the service. It seems to be it just consists of opening a drain plug, emptying the fluid, using a pump to add new fluid, and changing the cartridge filter. It all seems fairly simple.

No idea, but maybe someone with experience can chime in. For me, rule of thumb is: when in doubt, use OEM of anything.

Don't let the dealer do it. They just drain the fluid and they do not touch the internal filter. Find a good shop and have them drop the pan and clean it all out and replace both the internal and external filters.

Is there a big benefit to the internal filter? Im willing to tackle that myself. I'm pretty capable when working on cars. The only reason i was going to let audi do it was for the convenience, at 350, it was worth the cash to not have to touch it.

To do the internal you need to remove the pan and drain the fluid so not worth doing it a second time.

Is that with the internal filter? The quotes I got were for just the canister filter.

I’m a 2010. I only have internal filter. My external is a “lifetime” part.

Im pretty set on doing it myself, my dad is letting me use the lift at the shop he works at. Hes also a master tech. A friend of mine mentioned something about VCDS to do the flush, i havent seen anything about that in the DIY guides. Any ideas?

Im going to take the money i save by not paying the 350 to the dealer, and use it to replace the rear diff fluid, do an engine flush, refill with Liquimolly and a bottle of ceratec. if pricing works out, ill do the center diff too.

Vagcom is suggested so you can monitor the temperature of the fluid - once in range you shut the car off and top off the transmission.

Word is you can get similar results using an infrared thermometer aimed at the pan but since I have vagcom I used it.

I would not recommend changing the DSG fluid without VAGCOM. Bringing the tranny fluid to the proper temperature is key to ensuring you have the proper volume of fluid in the DSG.

I have access to a eurodyne cable and the logging software. Think that might get me what i need? Otherwise im sure i can get an infrared thermometer.
I also have torque pro, and a friend has an OBD11, which is what DAP used in their DIY video.

I was in a similar situation as you 2 months ago. I had ordered the ECS liquimoly kit but just didn’t have the time to do it so I shopped around for quotes on labor only, got anywhere from $300-600.. so I decided to do it myself. It’s pretty easy, also helps if you have a pump (I used a manual pump) for filling and a power tool for all the torx screws on the tranny pan— these definitely made the job way faster. I used OBD11 with no problems as well

Can someone explain the benefits of the internal filter change? Audi doesnt consider it neccesary so im curious what the advantage is.

I can’t speak to the benefits other than a clean filter but the extra work to do it seems trivial to me.

You also get to drop the pan so you get a look at anything that might be there and you get a new gasket on it. The pan should already be empty and it’s 12 screws I think. There is an order to put them back in, tho, iirc. If you’re on a lift it probably costs you fifteen minutes to do including cleaning it.
