Looking to pick up an additional ECU to send off and get chipped. Any suggestions on where to find one? Found one on ebay but it came out of an automatic and Im not sure if there is a difference or not. Thanks in advance.

It doesn't matter. You can change it over to manual with a VAG. Very simple. You can ask whoever is chipping your ECU to change it for you.

I thought I had a spare one laying around. I'll need to check again though.

www.car-part.com

since the ECU is also used in ATW passats, they're VERY cheap to get one used. like $150. i know, this is how i got my spare ECU. :)

Thanks for the offer guys but I'm going for the GIAC J31 file. I've already picked up the KO4 and FMIC. That said, if anyone here is trying to get rid of their J31 ECU let me know.

Also ment to ask about ESC, electronic stability control. I called a parts/salvage company today about an ecu and gave the guy all the correct info, MY2000 1.8T, 018P ECU, ATW engine, blah blah blah. He asked if I had ESC. I thought that this particular model didnt offer ESC but he said that it did. Is he wrong and if not, how can I find out if my car is equipped? (I'm pretty sure I dont have it). Thanks

on AW someone was trying to get rid of the j31 chip. you'd still need to get a ecu socketed.
