View Full Version : Decided not to do drive train mounts after much consideration

During winter, I schedule my mods and get ready for Spring. I went back and forth with 034/Eurocode DTMs for the A7 and decided to pass.

I'm spooked about introducing NVH in an otherwise very fine C7. I'm APR Stage II DP and very happy with the performance. Every now and then, the slushbox can't seem to keep up with what the tune is asking, and I thought DTMs might help. From reading the forums, it seems the DSG guys have better experiences with the mounts, but not the 8-speed crowd.

I am going to do them on my Stage III B8 A5. It's a little raw and can probably benefit from the upgrade.

I did just the transmission insert on my B8.5 A4 and it did not add any NVH, but made a very positive improvement in reducing drivetrain slop. I can't speak to the diff inserts, but for the transmission I highly recommend it as nvh was a concern of mine initially and it's not an issue.

If you want, you can install it yourself in 20minutes, in the unlikely event you don't like it, you can pull it back off in another 20minutes.

Looking to sell the drivetrain inserts?

Just the transmission mount on my SQ5 did not work well.
I would think the rest of the mounts would be fine.
As 19birel said the trans mount is easy enough to try and if it is an issue then just remove it.

I have all of them and they attribute nothing to NVH. Your concerns shouldn't exist.

Same here and i agree 100%. Every car should have them. OP, Watch the video on a car with and with out the diff mounts. You have to have something in place to help keep the diff from driving up through the rear of the car. (Axle wrap).

On my S6 trans mount and diff mounts did not notice nvh. When I did the rear frame mounts, then I hear some nvh. Put on one mount at a time. Trans only takes about 10 min. Diff takes about 20 min. I know the trans and diff mounts you can feel a difference of no slop.

Throw me in the camp of zero NVH issues with all diff/trans mounts in.

This thread has me looking up the 034 mounts. Had the trans mount on my mk7 GTI and loved how it transformed the 6-spd.

Question do I buy just the Trans one and go from there or all at once? Savings are marginal on the full package.

IMO the trans mount makes the most noticeable difference. The rear diff and subframe are incremental and I might not do them again given the chance. The videos are pretty compelling, but I can't say I notice them doing as much as the trans mount. (This is on an S6). It's also hard to say if I removed them if I'd say "wow, what a difference they made". For my purposed I was concerned that launch control would shift the diff around in an unnatural way and break something so for as relatively inexpensive and easy to install as they were I did them all (eventually).

The car goes under the knife in the morning for:
Fluidamper and iABED OD Pulleys
APR HE
034 Rear Bar & Links
cooler NGK plugs (APR recommended)

And going to take the advice of those of you that made comments in the affirmative and do all drive train mounts. Won't really be able to test them out and put the car through its paces until spring or at least 50 degrees.

Interested to hear your impressions on the Fluidampr, after some research and discussion with another forum member I'm installing one on my 2.0T while i'm in there doing the timing chains, tensioners, and guides.

Picked the car up this evening. It felt really good. Only drove it 9 miles, it's cold and has PS4s tires. No perceptible NVH from the mounts at all. The 034 rear bar is set to soft.

I can't wait for warmer weather.

Ordered the trans mount for the TDI. I’ll report back with results or a FS thread lol.

Great to see you decided to put them on

I’ve ordered the Eurocode drivetrain insert set as well, looking forward to that.

When are you doing the Fluidamper? I'm thinking of doing one on the A5, I'll decide after a little seat-time in the A7. I have noticed the A7 isn't as quiet since the work's been done. Could be my imagination.

Once the weather warms up, perhaps late spring. After doing a couple bigger projects on the car this winter, I have had it with working in the cold haha

The higher the miles/age the car has the more NVH will be introduced. Newer cars or replacing the bushings prior to installing the inserts are best.

What I meant by not being as quite is at idle. There is no NVH when driving. MY C7 has 46k on the clock.

On both my S4 & S6 .... the only bushing that introduced a slight hum ... was the front differential bushing ... If you have any exhaust alteration, you will not not hear it ... I love the tight feeling from the inserts ... [race]

The weather in MN has been warm enough to drive on the PS4s. Got the A7 plus out for a romp yesterday since the winter mods were completed.

1. Better, flatter cornering, and the back end comes around a little better. I'm sure as temps increase and tires warm-up, it'll get even better. Should have done the swaybar and links long ago.

2. The transmission seems to put the power down better. I use to get the feeling that the ZF couldn't keep up with the demands of the motor. There is quite a difference with the DT mounts.

3. Can't really feel the difference between the iABED OD pulley/fluidampr and the APR/OE stock crank damper, but I'm sure it's contributing to the smoothness in the power delivery.

4. Then for good measure, the APR CPS is in place to keep IAT in control.

5. No issues with the cooler NGK plugs.

I was sure I was going to get a ticket, I think I hit 87mph in 3rd gear! It felt good and sounded great!

Extremely happy with the result. The car is well, great...

Any benefit on the 034 over the eurocode inserts? Both billet alum. Kinda like the anodized eurocode

No, Mine is my own OCD with having parts line up within one supplier. Personally, I would not do the Eurocode Sway since there have been several cases of questionable build quality as well as issues with the links becoming noisy and needing to be serviced in short order. That's my main reason for going with 034. I will also add, some have had no issues with Eurocode parts.

Could I have hit 87 in 3rd gear? Could have been 4th, happened so fast, I don't remember.

Both made in USA, both do the same thing. The 034 are machined on the visible surface for aesthetics, thus making them more expensive.

Yeah. I get like that too. But I did order H&R sway bars. Figure the eurocode red will be the way to go. At about half the price. The extra machining of the 034 is nice. But won’t make a diff in performance. If they are both 6 series alum (034 doesn’t list the material, but I doubt they used 7000 alum) it won’t matter
