View Full Version : Anybody have an ECS or APR CAI I could borrow for science? 😀

I wanna see if anyone has a major brand CAI that they would be willing to send me for science. I want to see if I can gain any top end airflow and crack 300 GS on a K04. I basically want data to see if the stock airbox becomes a restriction at close to 300 WHP

My MAF reads around 280-290 GS from 6-7K and in theory, if the stock box is a restriction, there’s no reason why I shouldn’t gain airflow. The car makes peak power at 5800 so if I gain airflow at 5800, that should translate into more peak HP.

Anybody got a CAI sitting in a box somewhere they aren’t using?

ECS Tuning, want to send me a CAI for science? A used one? Scratch and dent? Missing some screws?

Slap a filter on the MAF and take it for a rip. [drive]

Nah. I want the whole kit. Maybe I’ll just buy one and sell it after. I just figured I’d ask if someone had one sitting around.

Buy the “ECS kohlefaser luft-technik” intake, test it, and then immediately use their return policy to send back and get credited?

Ideally your test should be on the dyno.

Although I like the idea of getting all my money back, it’s not right to “rent” things from businesses. I’d have to buy it and sell it as used after I’m done with it. I’ll see if they have any scratch and dent ones. [emoji3]

Not saying you should do anything immoral.

On the contrary: if you run your test and show (what you seem to believe) the intake does not provide benefit, then you have a fair argument to return it (it does not work as advertised) and the moral challenge is with them.

Why not just reach out to K & N and ask them for their results? They just recently admitted that they will not produce an intake pipe unless it improves performance. They only offer a flat filter for factory air box. Save yourself the money and pick up the phone.

I don't have anything to lend but support the idea for science. You could buy an Autozone Spectre cone filter for like $30 and return it after your testing, you could to try to zip tie the old heatshield from the stock airbox next to it to try and replicate a CAI. It probably won't be as good an an official kit but you should get results from it.

Nah. Don’t want to ghetto it. I want to test on a legit brand name CAI.

Both ECS CAI’s are on sale but I don’t wanna throw out 300+ bucks for science. 🤣

Way back when either Stasis or APR tested the stock airbox and Carbino on their 'stage 3' B6 A4 and the Carbonio did offer a decent improvement over 360ish HP (somewhere around there).

There has been some testing done on the airbox showing you can in fact improve the flow. There does seem to be a point where the turbo can start to out breath the airbox once you larger than stock.

Just curious why making your own would seem "ghetto"

I could see making a SRI wouldn't be ideal, because then you have to fab a heat-shield.

He said to stick a Autozone filter on the MAF 🤣

That’s ghetto.

Not sure if they are still the cheapest, but this is where I bought my parts. http://www.siliconeintakes.com/
