Went to dealer for my 2014 with 54k miles.
They recommended 2 services - "Fuel/Air Induction Cleaning Service" and "Fuel Injector Cleaning Service" , both for carbon buildup prevention. BTW I am not having any issues with the motor, I went in for an oil change and they just recommended this based on the miles and because they didn't have prior service records.
They said this service involves "using a machine to run a solution through the engine for preventative maintenance" and said it is recommended every 30k miles.
My question is - my car has 54k miles and I doubt the previous owner did this service. So at this point am I better off just doing a walnut blasting at an independent shop? It's pricey so I'd rather not for now if it is not needed yet, I don't mind doing the Audi recommended service but I just want to make sure it will actually do something for my engine.
Can anyone give some advice? As always, much appreciated.

Had you done any of these "preventative" services (the ones i mentioned above) prior to this or na?

Had you done any of these "preventative" services (the ones i mentioned above) prior to this or na?No, all done first time at 60K. Waterpump had very minor leak so went ahead and replaced before it got worse and replaced the tstat and pvc as well even though both showed no signs of failing.

The dealer proposed me the exact same service, at 65k km for 189$cdn. I said cool, that’s not expensive for intake carbon cleaning + injectors cleaning. I asked the advisor, do you recommend changing parts while the SC is off. He said no, we don’t need to SC to perform these tasks. So basically, they are just spaying solution from open of the throttle body to clean the flap and connect cleaner to the fuel line to clean injectors. I said I passed.
I bought a can of throttle body cleaner and I took off the throttle body myself to clean all body inside out. As for the injectors, I got a can of BK44 and dump it in the gas tank. I have twice the mileage now and the car is still running great.

This is a before and after on an 80k mile 2013 S5. I walnut blasted them myself while changing a stuck thermostat (plus water pump and PCV).

I'd definitely go with an independent shop to blast them. But it's kind of a "while you're in there" job... you should change the thermostat and PCV while you've got it apart.

That’s not the intake carbon clean the dealer is proposing.

If they aren’t walnut blasting you’re wasting your money.

I had this done 2 years ago around 45K. Some black smoke came out but was told that it was not so bad. Much economical than walnut blasting that costs $1K! This is better than DIY spray route. If you are in NJ it is a good option. I recommend this place.
