Is it possible for the ecu to go bad and cause the timing to go off and cause bent valves

Nope.
It's mechanical..

I say that but it could be something magical...
So I will modify to 99.99% no.
With the cam advance wide open it still would not hit..

Thank you for that information. That what I thought. I知 new to the audi and busted needed to ask. My engine let go so I put a junk yard engine in and wanted to double check to make sure the ecu would have caused it.

So you can prevent the replacement doing likewise.
It's usually the chain tensioner failure.

What engine are you putting in and are you doing any prevention to that one ?

05 A4 2.0t So the original engine chain broke cam bolt on the adjuster snapped off the cam. I知 going to be doing the timing chain and tensioner. Fuel pump follower. Timing belt.

wow thats pretty catastrophic .... thats one way of getting that pain in the ass bolt off....

yup sounds like you had a catastrophic breakdown.

one more thing to check .. the 05 engines came with a rev a CAM. make sure this has been replaced , the lobes that drive the fuel pump were soft and got eaten away so it was revised by 2006.Mine was done by Audi. check the part number on the cam or take a pic of the lobe area. The new harder cam has a different design.
