"Audi multimedia" SD slot cover stuck open

Hello,
I am unable to close the SD slot cover that says "Audi multimedia" on it. If I push with a lot of pressure, I can only get it halfway closed (see picture). Has anybody had this issue? Is there a way to remove the faceplate to fix the mechanism? Thanks!

Gotta take the HVAC controller out, an 8mm bolt behind that, then the MMI will slide out. Disconnect all the wiring and take it inside to take it apart to fix the mechanism. You can't take the face of the unit off while it's installed.
