View Full Version : Trunk Lid lighting connector

Still trying to diagnose my passenger side trunk lid lighting all going out at once. Does anyone have voltage values for the main connector? My working driver side seems to measure all pins around 0.32 and my right non working side measures all between .15-.22 which is clearly an issue. I tested the grounds on both sides and they seem to be perfect. If the voltage measures low, what is the diagnostic procedure from here? Also, is there a fuse directly related to the rear brake lights and LEDs?

Did you measure voltage on the good side with the light on and attached? I believe the bulb diagnostic in the control module cuts voltage if it thinks a lighting element is burnt out/missing. I think you should be seeing 6 volts for the parking lights and 12 volts when the brakes are applied.

Are the wiring harnesses similar for each light? You could try swapping from side to side to rule out bad circuitry in the housing itself.

I did try swapping the light units and the good side unit doesn’t light up on bad side. The bad side unit also doesn’t light on the good working side. I tested the bad side unit completely out of the car and it all checks out. It has to be a wiring issue on the passenger side I just don’t know where to begin. The ground is good I know that. No signs of burning or shorting anywhere. Is there a fuse specific to the rear lighting? I looked on the manual and don’t see anything specific.... thanks

You're down to checking wiring bundles and harnesses if you're sure the light housing is good. There are no fuses between the CCM (J393) and lighting.

I would start with pulling the liner from the trunklid and inspecting the wiring bundle all the way back to the CCM.

Alright appreciate your help. Does it make sense that when I swap tail light sides neither work? Would the computer know I have the right light on the left side and not allow it light up?

US B8.0 4-door LED tail lamps? The inner modules are wired in opposite order left vs right:

ground, brown, pin 1 left, pin 5 right
reverse bulb, pin 2 left, pin 4 right
tail/brake led, pin 3 left, pin 3 right
fog bulb, pin 4 left, pin 2 right
empty, pin 5 left, pin 1 right

Since you probably can't flip the plug over, you'd have to reorder the wires to match the other side's expectation to use the other side's lamp module.

Exactly which function is not operating? All three functions on the right module? Or just one of them?

There's no fuse for a module. There's several fuses for the J393 which powers all the tail lamps. It would seem odd for all three source wires to go out at the same time. Ground seems the most likely commonality.
