When I purchased the vehicle (Nov 30th) I checked tire pressures and set them to the recommendations on the door. Then I went into the menus and selected the option to tell the vehicle all the pressures were set. I'm not a huge fan of this system because I'd rather know what all the pressures are, but I figured at least it'll tell me if I have a leak.

Fast forward to last Friday night, I drove 2 miles to the local auto store and in that time I picked up a piece of metal in my right rear. I managed to drive it home before it went flat, and took the wheel to Discount Tire the next day to get patched, but they said the tread wasn't thick enough to patch it. I didn't want to have one new tire, and definitely didn't want to buy 4 new all-seasons, so I opted for a great deal I found on FB Marketplace to purchase four 18 inch rims with 4 barely used Blizztech tires. They should get me through the winter, and then I'll get some nice summer tires for the 19 inch rims (of which I'm sure I'll be looking for recommendations on the forum).

All that being said, I never got a warning about my tire pressure when I got the puncture. I have no idea if the 19 inch rims have the sensors in them, if the batteries are dead, or what the deal is. I'd be interested in an aftermarket system that actually tells me pressures. Does anyone use an aftermarket system they really like?? I've tried a couple from Amazon on my previous vehicle and they both ended up being cheap crap. One lasted maybe a year, and the other caused an air leak from the valve stem immediately out of the box.

I am pretty sure the system on the s4 actually doesn't use in tire sensors. It uses the abs sensor to detect change in diameter of the wheel compared to vehicle speed. Do you have any codes for abs problems?

Nope zero ABS codes. That's interesting though, good to know I don't have to worry about sensors in the wheels then.

Audi moved all the B8 in the US to indirect TPMS starting MY10. TPMS is only legally required to designate an event if one of the tires is determined to be at least 25% below the set pressure.

Gosh what a disappointing system on a nice car.

So if anyone has an aftermarket one they use and like I'd be interested to know.

How much pressure was lost? Last year I hit a pothole that caused a very obvious 2-3 cm gash in my tyre. I naively continued driving in the hope that it had survived, but the TPMS warning came on after about 1 mile. I found a place to stop and change the tyre fairly soon after that and not surprisingly it was completely flat. I got it fixed and the next week I was on the highway in bad rain and the TPMS warning came on again. I left at the next exit to check the tyres and all the pressures were fine! No problem since then. Yes it is a basic system.

No idea, it was visibly flatter though, by the time I drove a couple miles back home. Your situation makes it seem like quite a drastic change is needed for the system to detect a problem.

Not yet. I didn't get the tire repaired, bought a set of rims & winters instead. At the time I thought there were sensors, but since I know differently now, I'll probably go in and reset it since I did set all the pressures in the winters after putting them on the car. Thanks for reminding me.

I've been meaning to post a similar thread. Sorry to hijack OP. I have a 2015 S4 Technik, I assumed all of these would have TPMS by default? My C7 A6 had the type that is part of the car and not in the tires, which was great when buying my aftermarket wheels. The original owner told my the S4 didn't have the TPMS option, which I found odd. It has the 19" rotors and the day I picked it up, it had a flat that I drove on for a bit unknowingly. Pumped it up and got it home, then to get patched and no problem since. But is it even possible for these cars to not have TPMS?

Is this what you use? I'm a bit early of something that relies on my phone. Like, if for some reason I turned bluetooth off and forgot to turn it back on. I kinda like the idea of a dedicated monitor on the dash.

TPMS is not mandated by Canada.

Yeah I have had it on for a few weeks now, it tells tire temperature, and pressure ( might not be totally accurate +-2Psi.) but the real reason is it will announce on your phone when you have a leak AND tell you what tire. I mostly use it for long road trips.

Yes I did and I have no idea why I got that false warning - unless it was due to the water - the rain was particularly intense at the time.

I have had several full flats. 3 times tires cut and badly damaged (one was a set of needle nose pliers that went fully inside the tire......that was amazing). They went down quick and the warning popped up pretty much right away and pulled over quick to avoid rim damage. I have had probably half a dozen (or more) other cases of nails and other objects causing loss of air in the 3 years I have had the car. The warning does come on when the pressure is in the 30's which agrees with the approx 25% difference mentioned above. Because of my past experience with full flats, I will immediately pull over and manually check tire pressures to make sure it is not going down badly. It would be great to know exactly which tire rather than checking all 4. I will at that point reset the monitor to know if it is going down further. I plug the tires myself. Been doing it for many years and they hold the life of the tire. Had a nail in a tire a couple weeks ago.
