I do what I can but occasionally touch a rim with my stock 19s and the Pirelli P7s 255s.
Is there a wider or more protective tire I can put on when it's time ?
Conti DWS 06 on my old BMW protected the rim but the tires were too soft for my driving style, and yet I'm looking for the same outer bead/rim protection.

Maximum tire width is a function of the rim width. You can look up what’s the max size via a table and I guess, go with the max

FWIW you CAN fit a 265 on a 8.5" wide wheel, it is just neither approved nor recommended and some shops will not even mount them.
Brand and model usually dictate more than anything which will have better rim protection for the same size tires.
As you mentioned I think Conti is one of the better ones and Pirelli one of the worse ones.
However you might be better served by something like this if you a prone to hitting the curb.

Maybe something like the tires in this pic? I don’t know what kind they are...

I have Dunlop Signature HPs on my A4 and they protect the lip of the wheel nicely. Tyres are 255/35/19 which are the OEM size for the wheels.

Mm. Thanks guys. Will look into these. My stock size is 255/40/19. I don't know the rim width.
