Came home and found my sons A4 with the fans running on high. He hasn’t driven the car for over 24 hours. Pulled everything apart to lift the ecm/ecu and check the relays. Sure enough, relays submerged in water. Took them out dried out the housing and cleaned up the relays as best I could. Put it all back together and still having the same issue. Do the 614 relays get trashed after getting wet. They were clearly rusty. I ordered new ones but wondering if I should be checking the fan control module or wait to replace the relays first. The fans do shutoff when I pull fuse #4 and seem to operate correctly when AC is switched on and off with engine running. Any ideas, please share.

Start by Replacing the relays YES.
In my experience faulty FCM will cause the fans not to run.

How many relays are there? 3?

There are 3, one for fans, one for fuel pump and one for the horn I think. 2 are the same, one is different.

So would a bad relay be the cause of my battery dying twice recently and for the fans to instantly kick on even when it’s cold?
