Stock S4 that has not been tuned or otherwise modified with about 128k miles. Had transmission (auto) serviced in the spring at 120k miles.

I have gotten a transmission error twice over the past 5 weeks when backing my car into my garage. It is a slight up hill and a lip to get into the garage from the driveway. Turning the car off and back on seems to make it go away. I have backed up othertimes while driving but don't get the error. Maybe the car feels a little sluggish in reverse? No load noises when shifting or changing from P/N/D/R. Scanned with VSCD but can't find much on these two errors. Scan details below.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I have had this same problem with my S4 2013. I reset the transmission using this procedure:

Basic Setting
Prerequisites:
• Transmission fluid level correct
• Transmission fluid temperature between 40°C - 100°C. (one user reports this needs to be below 60°C)
• TCM fault free however it is strongly recommended to check/clear all Powertrain controllers faults also.
• Key on, Engine off
• Selector lever in P

All 3 Basic Setting operations need to be completed in the order listed below

[Select]
[02 - Auto Trans]
[Basic Settings - 04]

Select Erase counter for start and stop processes
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly or Not Running appears click [Stop]
[Done, Go Back]

Start the Engine and leave the Selector lever in Park

[Basic Settings - 04]
Select Clutch valve calibration [Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]

Select Distance sensor calibration
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
Clunking noises from the transmission are normal
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]
[Done, Go Back]

Switch off Ignition, wait 10 Seconds and switch it back on.
[Fault Codes - 02]
Check and clear any fault codes
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
Perform a test drive and check for fault codes again after doing so.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2014 s4 with 65k and have the same issue but with gear selector 1. I’m still figuring mine out.

Well I ran this on my car today, no immediate faults but I wasn't getting it all the time. Will see if this helps things or not. Thanks.

Hopefully it works for you, i tried it and at a stoplight my car would move for a few seconds, so something is definitely wrong with mine. Ill be taking the mechatronics out and inspecting the transmission in a couple weeks.

Hi. I am also getting this almost hunting effect, is it when the brake pedal is pressed but the car is trying to move forward but realises it can’t and tries it again?

Had similar issue with my S4, but years ago. Trying to backup into a parking spot, level ground, felt like gear not engaging in reverse. Intermitent. No errors detected since I didn't have vagcom in those days! :)
Since then, works fine (before my recent trans fail, in another thread) even uphill.
I'd try the TCM reset/adaptation as described above (or at Ross-Tech site).

Yes I’m going to give it a try this weekend when I arrive home, it never seems to do it for me only my girlfriend, something definitely isn’t right it’s seems to be when going from reverse to drive then setting off, Iv already had the mechatronic and TCU replaced so last thing is clutch before a whole new unit
