View Full Version : C7/7.5 Dragy Results Thread

AudiSportB5S4
12-09-2020, 11:33 AM
I made one of these threads in the B5 forum since I have an S4 that is my true money pit, but am starting to dip my toes into my newer money pit waters as well [>_<]

Since Dragy's app leaves much to be desired especially in terms of trying to find comparable times to measure against I think these consolidation threads are helpful.

With each post I would at the minimum list out: your model C7/7.5 (A6, S6, RS6, A7, S7, RS7) modifications, fuel and any other power adders (i.e. water/meth). To not have too much clutter, just post validated runs. Also - so it remains easy to read, it would be best if you try to put your runs in one post. Can always go back and edit to add more which is what I plan to do..

Scenarios:
1) 0mph - 60mph
2) 25mph - 60mph
3) 60mph - 90mph
4) 100kmh - 200kmh
5) 60mph - 130mph
6) 1/8th Mile
7) 1/4 Mile

Hey OG B5S4 buddy.
I just happen to borrow a dragy this week and only got to do a single pass thus far but am hoping to get out this weekend before I swap to winter rubber.

Year - 2012
Model - A6 3.0T
ECU Tune - APR
TCU Tune - HPT
Stage - Dual Pulley Stg2+
File - 93
Fuel - 93
Upper Pulley/Size - APR 57.75mm
Lower Pulley/Size - APR 187mm
Misc Mods - MercRacing HX
Stock intake, exhaust, SC, TB.
20" Rotors with 255 series Potenzas
Temp: 39*F
D/A - -188

I'm certain I can improve this as I had a car full of crap, wheel spin and was running 93 octane.

I don't. I tried to squeeze one in this AM, but had to bail on it. Was able to get an 1/8th mile in though which I feel is still a decent thing to compare against. I posted the graph in my second post in this thread, but was an 8.71 @ 81.97mph. The only thing the car currently has is a TCU tune which has helped tremendously.

That's pretty solid, just about the same as my Stage 2+ 6-speed A4. I ran an 8.75@ 79.53mph with a 1.96 60ft.

Of course you'll surpass that quite quickly once you flash the ECU haha

AudiSportB5S4 - Yeah, I've been here since selling the ASPGT25 car. Been over 5 years already and surprisingly, haven't got another B5. I stopped at #6. LOL

p3u/John, great run, especially for the stock blower. Can't wait to see that improve yet. I hope the family is doing well.

thedolphin- Looks like you went even quicker again. Nice! Did you change anything from the 11.5X?

Switched to APRs 100 map on E38 today. Need to notch it down to E30 because I'm having some fueling issues half the time with hard runs, and I need better tires because now I'm spinning in the dry (spun on this run) but these are my new personal bests. Thinking when conditions are even better later this week I might see another tenth off, if my tires can hold on decent enough that is.

Just got Dragy and went for a few runs. 100% stock 2017 A6 Competition
212530

When I saw the numbers, my first reaction was “This is not stock ECU”, but the DA was negative, so I think that make sense considering a great run for a stock.

I believe that is really stock, bought few months ago in a Audi dealer from off-lease and had all services done there.
I have the pulleys, intake and tune ready for when I have the time to install it. Will be nice to see the comparison.212531

My first ever attempt at launch control with my new Dragy.. not too shabby for my first attempt. On my way back from gym and gave up trying to find a flatter strip of highway.. will shoot for a valid time soon. I can see why people like these Dragy units [emoji3]
This is APR stage 2, single supercharger pulley, Injen intake, AWE Touring exhaust, new spark plugs

First and only time ever launching the car or using dragy so slower than others with similar mods it seems. Also I was awkwardly leaning forward holding the dragy on the dash board as it was moving around and flew off the dash pulling away from a light prior to actually running the 0-60. Are people sticking the little metal plate to their dash boards to hold the dragy? I’m hesitant to do that.

0mph - 60mph
(Amax not triggered as traction control was left on) 4.31 seconds. C7.5 A6, APR Single Pulley Stage 2, 93 octane. Stock intake, stock hx, stock exhaust, stock tcu

213244

Edit to add - looking at my acceleration graph I must have let off before I actually hit 60... may have been due the contortions necessary to keep the dragy unit in place on the dash.

Edit #2
So apparently amax is worth over 1/2 second on 0-60. Turned off traction control and did two runs this morning. Better of the two (by a slim margin) is below

0mph - 60mph
3.77 seconds. C7.5 A6, APR Single Pulley Stage 2, 93 octane. Stock intake, stock hx, stock exhaust, stock tcu

213319

Not bad for a single pulley car!

Edit #3

Flashed my tcu this morning, HPT via BG_SQ5. Awesome dude, highly recommended and I’ll send him some logs and he’ll adjust if I request any changes or if he sees anything he doesn’t like. Shaved .21 seconds off my previous best with no other changes.

4.31 seconds.

I just stick it in my cupholder. It conveniently fits in those 4 plastic teeth in the right cupholder

Ah I saw in the instructions the unit is supposed to have a direct line of sight to the sky and be placed horizontally, though I suppose if the signal is adequate that is all that matters.

I also realized that being a noob when it comes to launching, I left traction control/esc completely “on”, not sure if that makes a big difference on 0-60 times but I’d imagine that should at least help a bit. I’ll do some runs tomorrow and see.

You are correct. Line of sight is needed to be completely accurate, as well as no movement of the device. The back of the dragy is magnetic, so just stick it on top of the car before the moon roof glass. It won't budge at any speed.

It does make a difference. Amax doesn't engage otherwise and your shifts won't be as quick for 1st and 2nd. TC off, pop into dynamic, foot to floor for 1-2 seconds, let off brake.

Also I have a sunroof so I just pop it open if you're concerned about line of sight

I recently purchased a Dragy, so I am not very familiar with it.

However, I put mine in the ash tray in front of the shifter. I then simply closed the cover to prevent it from moving around.

Yep. That's pretty much exactly what my first stg2+ B5S4 car did back in 2004. Last one was the first ASP GT25 car. That trapped 124mph but the slow row and me refusing to full out launch the car killed my ET the one time I actually took it to the strip. Even then, I remember pulling the shift knob off twice trying to shift quickly. LOL.

Any weight savings in unsprung mass is highly effective. That's why guys often dragging the cars will run downsized brakes and wheels. Also more room for tire compliance. But I'll be damned if a proper set of 20s doesn't look better going down the road.

I've only ever ran 20's (with the exception of 21's for a short period) as anything else looks too little on this car and out of place IMHO. With that said, smaller wheels are definitely an advantage as not only will you save weight, but the weight is also closer to the axis of rotation further assisting in improved acceleration. Also, the extra sidewall can help out tremendously with launching. All the guys chasing records put small drag wheels on for these reasons.

I'd recommend to just get a light set of 20's with PS4 tires and call it a day.

With the stock catback, it sounds pretty close to stock, just a little louder when WOT. While normal driving you don't hear anything. I want the car to sound a little more roudy so I will be doing some catback stuff in the future. The Baffles really quiet the exhaust up

That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Getting the cats out of the stock position so I don’t have to worry about them melting...but with the exhaust quiet. I enjoy the sleeper aspect of my car.

What is E85R?

Like regular E85, but the R means the E have been mixed with 15% of race fuel and 85 % of E. Regular E85 is 85 % of E and 15 % of regular gaz pump.

Problem is with regular E85, your octane is so low and timing so high on E file, that’s why a lot of people get timing corrections.

Very interesting!

From all my test, I can tell you this, you need a minimum of 104 OCT and 40 % of E to run a E file without timing corrections.

Nice. I usually have 1.25 or under for correction, but I'm on a more aggressive setup with cats. Bet I could pick up a few hundreths with the E85R.

Updated this thread! It had been a while, but am seeing some great numbers. Seems like with fairly light mods these cars cluster in the high 3s/low 4s for 0-60s with some dipping lower with more invasive mods.

One thing I'd be interested in is seeing a video of any of these cars running through the gears so quickly. I ran a 4.5x the other day in 72*F weather. The 1' rollout was 4.2x.

I'm up at elevation usually 3k-5k ft DA and have numerous 11second passes and then my glorious 10 second pass there as well.

I'll post up the info here in my next post.

Only did a few run attempts when I did these a few days ago since cops are very ticket happy around here, not to mention its crazy cold and I was scared of ice.
0-60: 3.79
60-90: 7.44-3.79 = 3.65
1/8 Mile: 7.73

Images (sorry I'm not good at this forum, also the time on the screenshots is different because I had to pull my history for 0-90, I don't have a custom parameter for 60-90, So I hope 0-90 subtracted by 0-60 works):

isnt 034 still in "Beta" for the DSG

I have heard many good things about SRM TCU or Boosted Euro

They have a full production TCU for the ZF8 now, released less than a month ago. They have had a full production version DSG for the B8/B8.5. Both for the 3.0t. Can't speak on the 4.0tt C7/C7.5.

Wanted to pass along my draggy results since owning my 2012 A7. This is my wife's daily driver so I am not looking to gut the car or spend tons on porting etc. Just having some fun with it.

Car came with Statis Competiton Package which includes 21inch forged wheels (a little lighter than stock 20s) suspension, exhaust, and tune but I am not sure it had the tune still install (may have been removed for smog into Cali when I bought it). I added injen intake, Merc HX and 032 mounts, HPFP and Berk TCU tune along the way.

https://i.imgur.com/L1WRKlO.png

"Stock" seems crappy but it was hot, probably on old plugs and stock airbox. Eurodyne tune was cheap (already had cable) but all Eurodyne tunes are a baseline and need tweaking which I did not do. Eurodyne did launch from 3500rpms which is fun!

https://i.imgur.com/JKAtsom.png

Now the fun begins! 034 Motorsports with Berk TCU and mods. Car is soooo smooth. Eurodyne pedal was VERY sensitive (like 10% push gave you 100% throttle body opening). I am very please with the results. You can always chase lower numbers (smaller wheels, rip out interior, less gas etc) but I am impressed. Unfortunately I cannot change my launch RPM because my cruise control is out due to a distance radar sensor error so I am stuck at 2500rpm.

Now if only I could read the 034 data logs...... Is there a glossary for what the columns mean? I am trying to check fuel pressures and time to make sure I am healthy.

You might as well divulge what is the best fuel you can get or are willing to run because that makes a huge difference.

Seems to me in order to make a6 or s4 3.0T go 10 seconds 1/4 mile you need to invest 10k just to so... of course temps and Da matter too.

According to "The Internet", you can gain .1-.2 secs for every 1000ft DA and .1 sec for every 100lbs of weight reduction would net another .1 secs.

So if I was an S4 vs my A7 I could see very low 11s in perfect DA conditions.

I am happy with my $ vs Fun ratio as is. But it is sad when my dad pointed out that I am now as fast as his STOCK X3 M competition......[:(]

Completely different animals. Your A7 is much older, and not meant as the top tier performance car of the platform.

Also, why did your dad pay more money for the slower BMW when he could have had a Model Y P or Merc GLC 63 AMG? Both are cheaper and quicker. js.

those x3m are quick and especially if you do tune on it one fast car that's the advantage of turbos vs superchargers.
my bro has 340 BMW and he did stage 2 tune and downpipe only he is running 11 seconds 1/4 mile.

Valid. I am happy paying a 1/3 the price for the same performance.

I did ask about other choices but we have each had a few BMWs and it is just personal preference. Not a fan of Mercedes (feel softer and more refined but the power and sound is insane) and while the Tesla is an amazing car (have driven a friends model x many time) I do not like the styling. To each his own.

The hybrid cayenne is always high on the list. Having the same 3.0t as the audi but with a hybrid boost sounds cool. Just wish 034 Motorsports would do a dual pulley tune for the Cayenne.... PLEASE!
