Has anyone had any problems or experience with detonation?

I don’t know for sure if it’s pre or post det.

But it’s definantly det. It has a “knock” as you rev instead of as it slows back down.

We need to know a lot more about your car to help you figure out why it would knock.

Usually it’s too much timing, too much boost or both.

What are you running for a tune or mods?

Lucky for everyone it’s stock. Just has an intake.

When I got it, it had sat for two years. It had an oil pump blow. I changed that, ended up redoing everything in the head. I mean everything. I took it down to the blank aluminum and rebuilt it.

It ran great. Just kinda started happening shortly after. The gas that was in it was bad gas, sat for about 2 years. I this was my first Audi so I didn’t know they required 91 octane. I didn’t put anything lower in it, but I figured maybe it got old , so I got a couple gallons of fresh 91 and put in. It showed empty cause I ran out as much of it as I could. So I questioned maybe I didn’t put enough in to outweigh

I noticed last night, when I started it up, they run a little fast upon startup. It’s not doing it at that point. I can give it small revs and it doesn’t clank as it’s revving. . But when the motor slows down (I’m guessing normal run speed.). That’s when it’ll do it. Rev it the same amount and it sounds like it’s gonna rattle itself apart.

I let it sit and run at idle, trying to get it to throw codes. But it won’t. Figures huh lol

It doesn’t do it at all at idle. Runs like a dream.

You need to run some VCDS logs. You should look at knock sensor voltage at idle. Gotta figure out if it’s real engine noise or just the ECU pulling timing for whatever reason.
