Hi guys,
I'm two weeks from inspection and yesterday I got the brake warning light turned on. Its a big orange symbol on the center of the dash.
When the inspector sees that, he will likely fail the car. Thing is the pads have about half left on them so I am reluctant to change for new ones now.
Especially since I will change to 4 pot calipers in the spring.

Ideally I just want to code out the warning symbol on the dash. Seems possible on a few other Audi's but I am not seeing the option for the B7 in VCDS.

Is it possible to do?

The wear sensor is only on the inner pads. Did you check your inner pads? You could have 50% outer pad and have 5% inner pad.

You don’t have to code it out. Don’t know if you even can. What you can do is cut the wires from the pad and twist them together.

This required a resistor for my Canadian car. I used new porsche pads tested with meter and used similar sized resistors between the wire ends. Soldering then will be happening sometime this winter as one seems to have disconnected.

This guy was able to code it out in instrument cluster on his girlfriends VW.

But I’m pretty sure if you just cut the pad wires at the pad and twist them together you’ll complete the circuit and your warning will go off.

We did this all the time on older Vag cars. Brake pads are just an on off type sensor so all you have to do is make a pig tail with your pad sensor connector, twist the wires together and you’re done. No resistor or anything like that. Just the old pad wires, a twist of the wires and some electrical tape.

I only checked on the outside to be honest. Will recheck in the weekend.

Yes, those settings don't exist for the B7 from what I can see.

Did you look in coding?

Yes, lots of options for seatbelt chime (which I've turned off), non for brakes.

im not sure what " inspection is , but any " inspection that doesn't check the brake pads, or see if safety features of the vehicle have been bypassed, its not worth the sticker its printed on and tells you such " inspection" is a farce.

They put the car on a lift and check everything, including brakes. EDIT: and once down from the lift they test the brakes on a straight piece of road. For FWD vehicles they have some test tool also. Then emissions...
But before they get to that point they check all lights, presence of tow hook, emergency triangle, fluids (...), seat belt function and they look at the dash to note errors and to log odometer count. Potentially they can call it quits right there, or I can assume the brakes will get extra scrutiny if the warning is on.

Id check inside pads, and if good, just cut the wires and twist them together. As mentiined, it just a circuit that when its broken, the light comes on. Nothing needed.
