So cars been running amazing lately then all of a sudden about 5 minutes from my house tonite the car started not wanting to accelerate or respond to the accelerator it seemed like. It would get upto normal speed but would only accelerate as fast as it wanted to. So I threw a generic scanner on it as soon as I got home and found these codes; p0171, p0087, p2096, p0442, p2293, p12a2. I have vcds but need to charge my laptop so won’t be able to get that until tommorrow nite most likely. Has anyone had similar codes or issue and mostly I was wondering if someone could give me a few pointers on where or what to start with or look for? Any help is always greatly appreciated fellas.

Jhm stage 1, apr hpfp, 034 hfc, stasis resonated catback, piston dv, warm air intake, new front pcv, new evap purge valve, Im trying to think of anything else that u may need to know that has anything to do with these type issues? If anything else is needed please just ask thank again
BY THE WAY I HAVENT EVEN LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD YET AS IT WAS DARK WHEN I GOT HOME AND AM PRETTY SURE IT WONT END UP BEING JUST SOMETHING SIMPLE LIKE THAT WITH MY LUCK

Yikes. You got every fuel pressure code possible.
You need to log 003, 230 and 231 from 1500 to redline and see what your high and low fuel pressure figures look like. You gotta diagnose this from the low pump forward. Do your logs and save them and when you get home, look at block 106 with your car at idle and fully warmed up after your log run and if your low pump duty cycle is above 50-55%, that’s a good indication that you need a new low pump.

Then look at your 231 VCDS log. If your fuel pump is reading like 2 bar at redline, that really means you need a new low pump.
If your duty cycle is at 50% at warm idle and your 231 logs look good, look at your 230 logs. This is rail pressure. If your tune is requesting 115-120 bar and you’re not hitting it, then you need to see if your high pressure sensor is working, your cam follower isn’t worn, your cam itself isn’t worn or your high pressure fuel pump isn’t shorting out.
You should also test the wires going to the HPFP, make sure there isn’t a crack on the plastic sensor part of the HPFP causing a short and also make sure there’s nothing clogged up in the lines going to the HPFP.

UPDATE: so I went out this morning and popped the hood,(mind u when I wake up today it pouring rain and of course I have no garage I can actually pull a car into hahaha. Anyways the entire hpfp was out of the head. The piston was still in the bore but the bolts had backed out. Idk how or why all of the sudden that decided to happen as the holes are not stripped at all. I checked and they’re fine. I had checked the cam follower maybe 2-3 months ago and that’s the last time the bolts were touched. So anyway I bolted it back on and it still wouldn’t start. So I went back under the hood and started checking the lines to the pump to make sure it was getting fuel. So they checked out so next I check the rail side of the high pressure line and the fitting just spins. BINGO!!! Hahaha I’m gonna guess that the vibration from the pump coming out of the head caused that fitting to loosen up and leak fuel. I had replaced that line not even a year ago after installing the apr hpfp because I was chasing leaks in all the old hose and found a crack in the high pressure side line and replaced the whole thing and was able to do so without removing the manifold and everything and that fitting was borderline impossible to tighten so I got it just right enough probably and the vibration caused it to back off and leak. The car wouldn’t even start this am when I went out to check it out. I wouldn’t have even been able to log anything with it not running that I know of. Anyways evolutionarmory thank u so much for giving me such good advice and I’m glad it didn’t end up being something more difficult to diagnose and or repair. Ur definately one of the most knowledgable on the platform and I value your opinions. Thanx again

You’re welcome. All that diagnosis was under the assumption that your HPFP was still attached to the head. 🤣🤣🤣
I’d say that throws a big wrench in the works.

buy a torque wrench.
I have two. I replaced the bolts with some I had bought at a hardware store when I installed my apr pump. Idk if possibly that could have played part by maybe different materials heating different maybe causing it to loosen eventually? I bought it brand new from another AZ member who had sold his car but it didn’t come with bolts. When I first bought this car the hpfp bolts holes in the chain cover were pretty much shot from probably over tightening I would guess. So I replaced it and am very cautious when tightening those bolts. Thank u for ur insight, but I def always use one when working on my babies hahaha

Its odd because i have often left them what i tnought was on the loose side then still have to snap em off a year later with a crack... you may be right .. chineesium bolts.
But it sounded like there was a lot loose .. oh well its fixed

Well it appears I have a new issue now. So I had to drive my brother to a dr appointment about 45 min away this morning. So the car ran great 3/4 of the way there all of the sudden while going up a decent size hill where traffic travels about 50mph, the car kind of felt like it was trying to find the correct gear and then I noticed that my accelerator was not responding to anymore pressure. No matter how hard I press it would only accelerate very slow and the rpms would climb really slow. I just got home now and the car is still acting the same. My laptop is completely dead and I just threw it on the charger so I can go run a scan and log some data if need be. Any ideas? I had a intercooler hose come partially off once and the car acted similar. Of course we also got our first snow of the year this am in ct and just like all the car work including the chain service on my s4 has to be done in my gravel driveway because my garage isn’t able to have cars in it due to the genius who built it thought it would be nicer to have a like hangout or some shit but anyway I haven’t gotten under it yet to check the intercooler piping because it’s super wet and cold. I’m leaving towards it probably isn’t the piping since I didn’t hit anything or even get on the car at all really this morning that would cause one to pop off compared to how the car is usually driven. I probably babied it more than ever this morning because I was worried about the pump from the other day and didn’t wanna break down that far away. So any ideas of what it could be from experience or any ideas of what I should log if I do? Thanks again guys

What you should do is charge your laptop and scan for codes.

Buy some 12.1 grade steel bolts and never worry about replacing them again. On torq the 11 nm isn’t nearly enough to actually stretch the steel. So they are re useable. And this isn’t bullshit I asked a professional Ken laugh at me stating “all ya’ll dummie who replace shit cause Audi/VW doesn’t already have enough money? Or are you just stupid?”. I said I was both a dummie and stupid. Got the bolts free.

Alright now I know that u two specifically are extremely knowledgable about this platform and I couldn’t ask for two better people to have commented, but anyway I’m a pretty decent mechanic but I could definately use some help sometimes with diagnosing things. Since I usually post here with any problems before I even start trying to figure it out. I’ve had the car long enough now that I’ve got it pretty figured out but again nothing compared to the level u guys have hahaha. Anyway I was able to scan for codes but have no WiFi so I took pics with my phone if the scan on the laptop screen. Now I had a feeling it mayb a intercooler pipe popped because I’ve experienced a similar issue before and sure enough I think that’s what the issue here is. One question I’d like to ask u guys is with the fuel codes, from what I gather we’re thrown a little while ago. Is it possible those are still there from when the pump came out of the head or am I still having fuel pressure issues? 203784203785203786203787203788203789203790203791

Well, did you clear the codes when you fixed the fuel pump? Lol. If not, they’re still there.

It also logs at what km it set the code so that should help also..
Odd though I thought for sure i would see the verbal diareah code.

Verbal diarrhea? Hahaha and remember I told u I used some cheap generic scanner and I tried to delete them but honestly I don’t think they deleted. I didn’t clear them still because I wanted to wait til I can check out these intercooler pipes when it warms up a little hahaha

So I’m at the gas station now filling her up and I had a chance to start looking at some things my rail pressure is sitting at 6.4 and the specified would move so idk if that helps but so far that’s what I’ve been able to find. I am going to log now as I will be on a drive on the highway but I don’t think I’m going to be able to do a full pull in any gear hahaha. It only accelerates so fast no matter if I have the pedal on the floor. I had the same kind of symptoms when intercooler popped off before. I looked real fast and all intercooler piping looked good but I haven’t really gotten under and looked for maybe a rip in a coupler. Anyway I will post logs asap

What’s the easiest best way for me to share logs and such? My laptop doesn’t have WiFi where the car is so I could take pics or if that’s way I conceive the for u guys then I guess I could go get WiFi later and share but I’m trying to hopefully figure it out today while I’m off. Not positive but I think my fuel pump was saying 70+%!!!! I have a damn near new apr hpfp so I was under the assumption that that would take ALOT of stress off the lpfp? Maybe I was looking at a wrong value but I’m pretty positive that’s what I was looking at. Also by my rail pressure staying at 6.4 is also leading me to believe that something is up with my pump now. I’m pulling the pump now to check that out and I’m going to try and find this “intake leak”. I started it and sprayed starting fluid around all over and wasn’t getting any reaction anywhere. Btw the dv code is because the clip was broken and comes undone all the time. I have it rigged with zip ties but obviously it’s no longer working. Any other ideas on where to go from here? Also lemme know where and how to post these pitiful logs hahaha. Rpms barely rise hahaha, the last one is crazy ppl were jumping in front of me and when I matted it to the floor it stuttered for a second.

FUUUUCCCCKKKK!!!!!!!203846 it’s over now. Idk how or y tf the pump ended up coming out of the head in the first place but now it has me wondering which caused which. This is a brand new APR pump. I had it in not even a year. I don’t beat the car to the point that I’m positive others do and I checked the follower maybe 10k ago tops and was fine. Idek wtf to do I’m so pissed. This is my daily too. My s4 has the motor and tranny ready to go back in but won’t be fast enough and my se-r is blowing smoke now after installing aftermarket sale valve covers!!!! Wtf!!!! Can I get a break? I have my old hpfp but it’s junk. Is it possible to swap the plunger and spring from my stock pump to the apr pump for now? I have a new cam follower but def not going to be able to replace that pump especially with a new apr one if I can it’d have to be a used stock one most likely because things are way too tight. It’s been a horrible year. I’m really hoping apr might work with me and replace it which I kno is most likely never going to happen but maybe they can replace internals since that seems to be all that’s broken or something.
