I picked up an RS7 couple days ago. The car runs the fan for 5-10 minutes after your shut the engine. It always happens, even when I move the car from my garage onto my drive. The fan will kick in after the engine is off. I was told it is common for the fan to cool down the engine. Which is understandable if you drive for a long period of time, but moving a car from a garage on to a driveway and having the fan run 5-10 minutes just does not make sense.
I will be taking the car in for a service Tuesday but wanted to get your take! Has anyone had any issues similar to my case on the new RS7?

I cant think of a hot vee engine that doesn't do this, these motors get insanely hot by design, so yes, totally normal

My 2016 RS7 does this every time and has for the two years that I've owned it. The fans run even longer after I got the APR tune installed. It's perfectly normal for the car to do it, so no worries.

My dealer had an RS7 in the showroom and started it up for 30 seconds or so. I noticed the fan was running loudly after he turned off the engine. I was surprised enough to comment. GM said completely normal.

Like everyone else said this is normal and nothing new. Turbo cars, especially those with a hot V configuration have been doing this for years. The fan runs along with an electric oil pump to keep oil circulating through the turbos to prevent the oil from breaking down and causing carbon buildup. It’s like a factory turbo timer.

Does the same thing on my 2013 S6.

i believe it runs with the auxiliary water pump for cooling down the engine... maybe like a turbo timer but with engine off.

It runs an electric oil pump to keep oil circulating through the turbos to prevent oil breakdown and the fan runs to cool the oil.

hmm then it might be different for c8?
C7 design was on the Engine Coolant Circulation Pump 2 V178.

My 2021 rs7 does the same thing. I mentioned to dealer and they said it was completely normal.

It's how the turbos are cooled after the engine stops....completely normal.

My dealer’s service rep says it’s completely normal for the fan on my 2020 C8 S6 to NEVER come on when I turn off the ignition... I don’t know what to think.

The S6/S7 and the RS6/RS7 are completely different. The V8 in the RS6/7 will pretty much always stay on after you shut the engine off. I have only had it happen once with the V6 in my S7.

This is completely normal gentlemen.
Audi is persnickety about oil temperature 1) the engine will run above 1K RPM for a few mins on cold start then drop to .8K to warm up the oil faster. 2) if the ECU thinks the engine oil is too hot it will run the aux fan for up to 10mins after shutoff. This is partly a reason why Audi has such good 4 and 6 cylinder engine breakdown history. And why V8s (which are all developed by Porsche) will last longer in the Audi implementation of them.
It’s quirky but you’ll get used to it.

On a side note, along with the cooling fans…how long does the car electronics stay on with a key in the car after the engine is turned off?
I am planning on installing a tune and did not want the car to shut off. I also plan on using a battery charger for safety.
