I have a B5 A4 and try to maintain the interior very oem. I picked up a stock radio, and the CD portion does not function. Picked up another one, and even though it is better than the last this one has a CD error and I can not get any CD to play (the standard struggle noise before error message).
Tired of buying lemons, so figure ask if there are any competent people on here who can refurbish one if I send it to them. If so, please PM with a price quote. I most likely will forget I made this thread, so there is that reasoning.
Thanks in advance!

Did you check with an Audi dealership? They probably have someone that does audio unit repairs for OEM decks.

I had similar problems in my B5. I decided to take the head unit apart and I discovered that it was modular like a mini version of separate component stereo systems all plugged into a backplane. The modules can easily be unplugged and replaced. So after that I got 3 Symphony decks with different problems and was able to make 2 fully working decks with the parts available. Put one in my B5 and the other in my wife's allroad. The radio security code follows the backplane BTW.

Found a seller on ebay that does refurbishing for $90. So the current deck I have I can use, using the rear 6 CD changer. Now new plan is to source one for cheap, then have it shipped to that seller to get refurbished. Seems the most cost efficient way, without the aggravation involved. Till then, I can still listen to my music so it is ok.
Real end goal is to incorporate bluetooth. Figure if I use any of the older apple 30 pin adapters (ie Blitz, Dice, Dension, etc) and add one of those 30 pin bluetooth adapters, then I can just use the music off my phone. That is the end goal project. But the B5 is old, and basically new project is to keep a clean B5 on the road. So basic refresh of the interior, then drop car off at a shop (I am choosing Nash Auto in Clifton, NJ because he is an old school AZ head) and have her refreshed on the exterior (there is other stuff I will ask the shop to do). This is just one aspect of the interior (there is more)...and it is getting frustrating when wanting to order a bunch of parts that no longer exist. Now I need to source old stuff and figure out how to make it the best condition it can be.

For a B5 ..? Never hurts to check some of the retailers clearance- I see re-manufactured older head units on close out lots of times for SUPER cheap. I got a single din for an older A6 for $45 shipped from ECS tuning a while ago.
And as for bluetooth- the setup I run in all my C5's (which is pretty much the same) is a Dension GW16/17 Ac xxx - from my experience these are the most straight forward / simple but reliable interfaces if you don't want a million options. Like this one here: https://enfigcarstereo.com/DENSION_GW17AC2.html or this one : https://enfigcarstereo.com/DENSION_GW33AC2.html
AND then snap on a tune-2-air dongle or the similar one by Car-Pro. I've used this same setup for 10 years in various cars and have no complaints. You get text display in the cluster and full control via headunit just like OEM.
Seems like from that point you end up spending alot more for tiny little creature comforts. The connection is great, reliable and simple.
