Doing paint correction on my black 2016 S6 I bought a few months back. Clear coat seems to be extremely hard. Been doing 2 sets of 4-5 passes with Sonax CutMax and MF pads using DA and even though it looks better, still does not take all the scratches out even though they look to be very fine and superficial and I would have thought they would come out pretty easy with heavy compound/pad combo.
How many passes could I try without having to worry about damaging clear coat/paint? Pretty new to paint correction so just making sure I am careful. Any other suggestions/advice will be greatly appreciated
Before I switched to Sonax CutMax, I tried Griots Fast Correcting compound and also Chemical Guys V32/34 as well.
Generally speaking, Audis have hard clearcoat, and it seems yours could be harder than usual. You've already made passes with good product, so if you're not satisfied you can keep going using proper technique.
Up the DA speed to 4.5, apply medium pressure to the polisher as you move your arms slowly across the paint, about an inch or two per second, as you work a small text section (2' x 2'). Make 6 criss-cross passes. Wipe away any residue and check your results. Decide whether to repeat that specific approach or adjust it, then carry on. After completing every panel or two, but no more, make sure that you thoroughly clean your pad or replace with a clean, fresh one. You'd be surprised at how much a dirty pad can kill correction performance.
Good luck.

What DA? If it's not a forced rotation unit, put it on the max speed. You need all the effort most non forced rotation units you can get in order to keep the pad spinning. You aren't likely going to cause any damage with a standard DA. My guess is you just aren't able to keep it rotating fully. Feel free to hit me up by phone if needed. I'm in central Ohio and happy to help or guide you through things. https://www.reflectivesurfaces.net

Your best bet is to have a Paint Thickness Gauge. You can really measure up to how many microns you have to play with.

Which sensor would you advise me? There is a huge variety of them, should I buy an expensive one?
No need. a basic $90-120 one will work.
