So a few weeks ago, I noticed my AC wasn’t blowing cold air and my ECON light was on. My first thought was that it was probably low on refrigerant because I’ve noticed the AC didn’t feel quite as cold lately. So I went and bought a recharge can, and sure enough, based on the cheap gauge that those things come with, the low side was low. I recharged it up to the proper level, but still was having the same issue. Then I got on OBDeleven and checked for climate control codes, and sure enough there was a code for the G65 high pressure switch: 00819, signal too low. Ordered one from FCP Euro and noticed it didn’t quite look like the original sensor despite ordering the OE part, but stuck it in the car nonetheless. This time I could actually get the AC out of ECON mode and the compressor would turn on. At this point I thought the problem was solved. However, the next time I went for a drive, I noticed that the ECON light kept coming and going. Back to the drawing board. OBDeleven still showed a 00819 code, but this time it said “signal outside tolerance.” This made me think that the new sensor could possibly be faulty, but I went ahead and checked on some other things first. I ordered a set of proper AC gauges and hooked them up, at which point I noticed the pressure was still a tad low on both the low and the high side (it was colder outside on this occasion than it was on the first). I added a bit more refrigerant and got the gauges reading this:
202142
Based on my limited HVAC knowledge, the low side is okay, but the high side is a little low for the outside temp (it was 64 deg F that day), and it should be around 125ish. This makes me think the compressor is going bad, but at the same time, when the ECON light is off, the air is blowing very cold, and everything seems to be working totally fine, it just inevitably shuts off a few minutes later. I also want to note that the compressor shutoff criteria fluctuates between 1 (refrigerant pressure too high) and 3 (refrigerant pressure too low). Additionally, I looked at the system pressure using OBDeleven, and I don’t remember the reading, but at the time I recall that it was normal. If anyone has any insight into this problem, please let me know!
