I stumbled across this video for upgrading the front door speakers in a B8 A4 and there's some interesting information as to why the bass coming from the front doors is somewhat lacking. Check the video starting at around 54:09 for the discussion of the problem and what to do about it:

The premise is that Audi decided to use a higher crossover frequency for the front door woofers so the majority of the bass emanates from the rear doors and the subwoofer. The video shows you how to swap the pins in the quadlock connector at the rear of the head unit so that the signals for the front and rear door speakers are now reversed. This sends more lower frequencies to the front doors and brings more bass into the front area of the car. This also means that the fader control now works in reverse.
