Seeing if there is a standard the community uses or preference anyone has that has had to purchase a new head gasket [wrench]

Elring. It’s all I used on my built bottom end and built head.

There’s no real reason to use anything other than OEM. VAG head gaskets are bulletproof. My motor build had a stock head gasket and that would have been just fine but I ended throwing in a thicker Cometic gasket to fine tune my compression ratio a little more.
Get one from Audi or buy an Elring.

Looking at the Elring I have and pics of the OEM it sure looks like the elring is the oem supplier.

ECS has two. A 32 dollar option and a 70 dollar oem.
Best quality vs cost I could find was ebay (Victor Reinz Engine Cylinder Head Gasket 613600500 06F103383J)
Quality should be as good as oem and it costs less than the 70 on ecs
