View Full Version : Need some advice!
My last post on here was my mistake on buying the aftermarket coolant housing tank...after a few months it started leaking from cracks on the top and along the seams. Got the Genuine one and its fine.
Having an issue with coolant leaking from the over-flow now...not a lot at first but now its very noticeable. Never had an issue before. Wondering if it could be I didn’t get to check it properly after the bleeding? It was 90+ outside and the heater wouldn’t kick on. I manually pumped the hose for a while so I’m fairly sure I got all the air out.
What would cause the coolant to get so hot it would overflow?
My engine bay seems overly hot after driving, abnormally for me. Even when driving I feel heat on my legs from the engine.
Last oil change I drained the intercoolers...drivers side had white milky in it, about 1/4 cup (we had some flooding & my son went through some water, not that deep but thinking that’s why)
Any advice on what I should be looking at?

thermostat [confused]
thermostat [confused]
Thanks @vce1232000 I’ll do do a little research on that... didn’t even know where to start. Have done so many replacements over the past years. Know something is definitely going on, but, no idea what I should be looking into. Defiantly over hot when I lift the hood.
Everything is fairly new. Did the flange and multiple hoses for the coolant system, replaced the whole pvc components and valve cover, cam chain, timing belt, carbon cleaned a few times etc. so pulling straws as to what it is.

Would the thermostat cause it to overflow?

Would the thermostat cause it to overflow?
Yes. if its stuck closed or partially. It would cause the engine to run hot because its lacking cooling flow. The thermostat housing is located under the alternator [;)]

Make sure you bleed your coolant properly before you do anything else.
Unbolt the overflow tank from its bracket and hold it up as high as possible. Take off the bleed screw on the hard pipe and pour coolant in until a steady stream of coolant pours out. Put the screw back in.
Now pull out the coolant hose on the heater core until the bleed hole in the hose is exposed. Don’t remove the hose entirely. With your coolant tank still held high, pour more coolant in until a steady stream pours out of the hole. ALWAYS keep the coolant bottle filled. When coolant pours out of the hole in the hose in a steady stream, push it back in and clamp it. Put your coolant tank back where it belongs and leave the cap off.
Now start the car and let it idle. If it isn’t already, fill the tank to max. The circulating coolant should bleed out any small remaining air pockets. Close the cap and drive it. Make sure it comes to temp and holds it.
Most people don’t bleed these systems properly. Start there.

Temp gauge is in normal range. My AC isn’t working, need to replace my condenser [emoji57] would that have anything to do with what’s going on? Didn’t think it would be bad on the car if I put it off. Know it’s a doable job for me but have to find someone to evacuate the system and not get ripped off.

Thanks....never did the bleeding like that Great info. I’ve only compressed the heater core hose and front hose while using my thumb on the bleeder. Never let it run with the cap off.
I’ll bleed it again using your method. Hopefully that’s what is wrong.
