View Full Version : Anyone ever disabled the kickdown switch?

So, I've been working on logging 4th gear pulls, and it seems that I either invariably activate the kickdown switch and drop it into 3rd, or never reach 100% pedal position and/or throttle position based on my logs.

Looking to find the best solution to inactivate the kickdown switch:

1) Is there a way to do this with VCDS?
2) Is there a way to remove a pin from the switch without getting a bunch of errors?
3) Will an aftermarket product like pedal commander help get rid of the kickdown switch function?
4) Is there any sort of pedal stop that is made for our cars that would keep me from depressing the kickdown switch?

Its in the tuning of the TCU, so not a simple vag com mod. I've disabled kickdown on my personal tune when in manual mode for full control.

Not too familiar with the mechanism but could you make a sleeve (hard plastic or metal) to fit around the switch? Just make the sleeve slightly taller than the switch. Thus you can go full throttle and not engage the kickdown. Then just pull the sleeve off for normal driving.
If it works it would be good for dyno runs too.

Also throttle body position will almost never be 100% even at “full throttle.”
