View Full Version : how to RS4 clutch + stock 2.0 flywheel

So after much research and debate on the best way to get a better clutch behind my 2.0tdi swapped a4 I decided to figure out how to get the stock 2.0t flywheel to work with the RS4 clutch. Basically it boiled down to the rs4 flywheel has a 4mm taller step height than the 2.0t. But because the flywheel is thin I had to make up that step somewhere else. So I tried to use the spacer method but the pressure plate hit the case. But it did disengage like it should. So I took the pressure plate down to a local machinest and had him knock 4 mm off the friction surface of the pressure plate. And just like that I now have a working RS4 clutch on a stock flywheel. Total cost was $250 I got the clutch kit with 3k miles on it for $100 and then the machine work was $150. So for anyone else who wants a cheap clutch option this is it. No need to buy a $500 flywheel unless you really want one.

So the first way was the spacer method and then second is it after machining. Overall it was a pretty painless process.

Damn, Audi seems to be the next Honda or Chevy when it comes to swapping parts around 😂 jk

Curious though and totally off-topic, what made you want to do a TDI swap instead of something else?

Haha yeah you can really mix and match these cars. But I went tdi for the fuel economy mostly and because I can do all the tuning my self. I drive 100+ miles a day so the extra 10-15 mpg will pay it's self off. And now I have one of the only TDI B7 cars in the USA.

I guy near my place work in a junk yard and he made two TDI B7. From what I know, both still on the road.

The issue here, guys who knows cars, and can get tons of part for cheap , and test fit them, are not on forums. They are not computer guys.

At eurokacry , theres a ton of crazy built, most of them never documented their finding.


Just like the guy who made 4 sucessful 3.0T swap, he never came here to show us how.

Yeah a lot of the stuff that I've done doesn't get posted. I don't hardly ever take pictures of things either. I mostly posted this cuz someone on here told me the clutch couldn't be done and I wanted to prove them wrong lol.

Update on the clutch setup. Pedal pressure is heavier it is definitely stiffer than the S4 I used to have. Engagement is right near the bottom where I think it should be. Clutch is smooth and grabs pretty hard. I gotta fix my water neck and change my tune on the ecu to get rid of torque limits and add some more fuel but I'm sure it will take the 350 ftlbs I hope to get out of it. I tune these tdis really aggressively down low. My jetta tune has full fuel by 1800 rpm. Hopefully I don't just shatter the 02x haha.
