View Full Version : Thinking about buying this B7 3.2 as a DD

Hello B7 forum,

I owned a few B5's, and my wife had a B6 3.0 that ran flawlessly. So not new to Audi’s or working on them, one of the B5’s was a built project car.
So I have found what maybe my next DD, as I have been without an Audi for all most 2 years. And I really don’t love driving my 2008 Rav4, it goes A to B, but that’s all it does well.

Below is the link to the CL add. It’s an 2007 3.2V6 auto Avant with 176k, but its 1 owner and has been dealer serviced with records from the 1st oil change. (I have the CarFax)
So what do you all think? Runaway, check it out? And what should I be looking for, when I see the car later today?
We sold my wife’s B6 3.0 with 165k on it, and it was still running like a dream, it used a little oil but that’s it (1/2 Qt every 3,000 miles). Hoping the 3.2 holds up well when taken care of?

Let me know what you think?
Thank you!

well when you post links to cars on a public forum you always risk someone scooping it on you if they like it, so be carefull

I think the 3.2 has to be more reliable than the POS 2.o , especially if you are not interested in modding

what im not sure about is the auto. i know if its CVT is bad, but beyond that not sure.

5500 seems very steep for a 12 year old car , but i know avants go for a little more.

it should be discounted just for that beige looking interior .. yukk..

Thanks for the feed back. I plan to work on the price if possible (12 years+ 176k) (no plans for Mods..Well maybe coils and wheels at some point. But no go fast stuff). If someone really wants to beat me to it in the next 6 hours, well maybe they need or want it more than me. And if I don't buy it, maybe it helps another AZ member that will buy it. That would other wise not be looking in my area for A4s.

Its an auto, so we will see about that. No way I would buy a CVT in any car any year! I just hate driving the "rubber band" power plant.

would be a cool pickup at the right price....

some avant guys will probably chime in with correct value.

I scanned the Carfax and did not see any chain work done. Not sure if you can Vag Com chain stretch on the 3.2, but would look into it. Also, being DI might be due for injector cleaning or new injectors. Just some bigger ticket items that could be in the future.

Post #28 I think references how to tell chain stretch with Vag Com

First time I hear 2.0T is pos and 3.2 is great. As far as I know the 3.2 has the same timing chain issues like the S4 4.2

This one looks very clean though despite the miles and the light interior. If it runs smooth why not

yeah the 2.0T just has sooo many issues that you dont hear much about on the 3.2 , especially since the 2.0T is such a disappointment compared to the 1.8T that preceded it.
But in all fairness it could be due to the fact there arent nearly as many 3.2s

I have always had very reliable audi V6s

Thanks for the feedback all!

I checked out the car and test drove it. And the owner had some additional service information (from the dealer) not listed on the carfax.
The short story is, this car was old lady owned "45-55" not bad driver old. It was garage kept and driven 25 miles high way to work + DD needs for the last 13 years.

I spend an hour looking over it and its super clean! Inside and out. I don't see anything for the chains but on start up and running / driving the car is smooth and quite. I did not get a "cold start" as I met them in a public place.

The owner is going to follow up with me on line item service tickets (from the dealer).. from the carfax: the "recommended maintenance" trying to confirm any transmission service and intake valve service.

So far, this is looking very clean.

If it's good enough for you, snag it! 3.2 engines I've been told are pretty stout.

Thanks, If the rest of the service lines up, and the price works out I may just pick it up.

Seems a little high. I picked up a 2006 black on black avant sline quattro auto with 103,000miles for $1,800usd. Now it did have a knock at idle which is why it went so cheap, was told it was the timing chain tensioner, bought the part and installed with the motor in the car and drove it for 20,000miles. It was flawless, so I ripped the motor out for a 2.7stk build! My wifes has a 3.2 sedan, with 105,000miles on it now, and its only problem was a hard starting issue. Either your 3.2 has it or doesnt, I replaced e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g with my good 3.2 avant motor, ecu, sensors, etc. Injectors seemed to solve it temporarily, but now its creeping back again. My wife used to have a 3.0 as well, and I prefer that motor over the 3.2 for maintenance, reliability and 5 valve in the 3.0 vs 4 in the 3.2. Replaced the oil filter housing and starters on both 3.2, nothing too terrible to do. Both auto gear boxes never gave me any issues. Id only buy it if the motor is healthy and the interior/exterior was really clean, and a black interior, but thats a preference.

Thanks for all the input all, Looks like I just joined the B7 Audi world! Looked at the car one more time, got to hear a cold start, No chain noise. looked over some more dealer services tickets. Everything looked good, so we worked on getting a few bucks off the price and that's all she wrote. Excited for the "new" DD and to be back in an Audi! Plus its my 1st Avant!
Hopping to have many miles and smiles ahead of me! And a few busted knuckle's [wrench] along the way too I'm sure.
