Hi all,

Can B9 Q5 upgrade from the base spare tire well subwoofer to B&O's? is it a plug and play? Worth the try (the seller willing to sell it cheap at $150)?

Don't do it. The B&O subwoofer is terrible. You're much better off using something like this for the same money:

Looks good! Does it need an amp? Is it also direct plug and play?

That one is passive so just plug it in. Can you do a quick check and see if your sub has 2 or 4 wires going to it? If it's 2, then it's a drop in, but if it's 4 then the solution is a teeny bit more complicated.

If you have 4 wires, here's what you can do within your $150ish budget

Buy a wedge box. These are all good examples:

Convert it to 4 wire:

Install a Dual voice coil subwoofer with a high efficiency and low resonant frequency for sealed boxes. This one is a good example:

A bigger ported box would play louder but to be honest if you want it a lot louder, you'll need an amp. The nice thing about this approach is that you can just add an amp later if you want more, but you can't fix the factory sub by adding an amp to it. That Alpine sub can handle up to 600W.
