View Full Version : Is there a way to delete the purge valve?

I'm on my 3rd purge valve since buying the car in January. The line leading to it was broken and it sucked up dust making the valve stick open. When I got my timing done he replaced the line and all was good for a couple weeks. Then the valve failed again. I put the 3rd one on today and drove around the block and a code popped up again. Not my usual P0455 but a P0444. I guess it's at least a new code. I just want to delete it if possible. I imagine it would need to be tuned out somehow. Any help is appreciated. It's a part with a lifetime warranty so I guess for now I'll just keep replacing it.

What kind of evap purge valve are you buying? Do you constantly over fill your gas tank when filling up? Your charcoal canister can be breaking up internally and causing the valve to stick. My guess is you have something else going on.

The purge valve usually doesn’t give you a gross evap leak that the P0455 is, usually a P0442, slight evap leak. You need to smoke test your evap system to properly diagnose this.

Is the valve installed in the correct orientation?

The past 2 were Bosch brand but this newest one is a sh@#ty duralast one. It is in the correct orientation. I guess I'll have to take it and get it smoke checked.

The N80 valve? These things don't really fail all that often. Either you're getting shit parts (possible), or there is a much larger problem afoot (most likely).

I'm chasing a P0455 code too. Replaced the N80 valve, replaced the leak detection pump with a used one, replaced the gas cap, replaced the check valve hoses after the n80 to the engine, smoke tested with no leaks, replaced the fuel pump gasket and I'm still getting the code. Let me know if you find a solution to your code. I've had P0441 pop up momentarily with it but it never set that code, just pending.

P0444 is a short circuit code for the N80 valve and P0445 is a large EVAP leak. A bad N80 valve will usually not throw a large leak code.

Since you fixed the hose maybe that took care of the large leak code. Now stop putting cheap N80 valves in and maybe that will fix the short circuit code. If a new genuine OEM valve doesn’t fix the P0444 code, start looking at the electrical side of the problem. Wires, fuses, grounds, etc.

Maybe buy a new N80 valve from the dealer and check resistance with a multimeter. If the genuine one is much different from the cheap ones you’ve been putting in, you’ll know the part is bad. If resistance is about the same, you’ll know it’s not a part problem.

I replaced N80 couple times too, even though they are very easy to test: 12 volt will make the valve open, that's it. None of mines are broken. When my coolant sensor plug broke, I did this:

Extra heat shield on a BWT engine (https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/903314-Extra-heat-shield-on-a-BWT-engine)

After that, P0444 never shows up again. My guess is some wires were partially melted by the cat heat inside that harness with a leather wrapper.
