Hey guys, I have another thread where unfortunately my engine has seized and as a result I’ve got a replacement from the same year which came with the harness and ECU.
Is it better to use that ECU or keep my original one? Or it doesn’t matter? Just wondering if there is anything stored on the ECU specific to my VIN that would be worth keeping as it would be easier just to use the replacement one since it is all wired up to the engine.
Thanks!

Keep Original or else car will not start there is an immobilizer coded to your key.

Well that makes the decision easier 🤣
The harness is in much better shape on the replacement so I guess I’ll have to hacksaw the ECU’s out to swap it.

Huh?? Why don’t you put the hacksaw down and just unplug the ECU from the harness?

You'd need the cluster coded to the other ECU as well.

Don’t swap the harness unless the part numbers match. There are a lot of variations to the harness. Keep the original ecu. You just have to cut slots in the retainer fasteners to remove them with a screwdriver and then unplug and swap harnesses if you’re going to do it.

Right, saw the videos of people doing this. Will double check the part numbers.
Thanks!

Thank god for Dremels. Made slots in 3 of the 4 screws which need to be fairly deep otherwise the screw won’t budge. Was able to remove the guard.
@EvolutionArmy there is a “chastity belt” which locks the harness connector to the ecu which doesn’t allow you to unplug it without removing this first.

Pretty sure they’re safety sheer bolts. Hacksaws are not required was my point.
