common problem, the cat seperated. take it out and have a shop weld it. i don't know if a shop will tack it while it's in the car, never hurts to ask though.

I think you will find a muffler shop or somewhere that would tack it back.

very common problem, it's made from 2 different metals that heat up at different rates. Causing them to seperate. Like others said, get it re-welded, or give yourself a reason to get a test-pipe.

Testpipe Time!

test pipe wont pass cali emission

but a gutted cat probably will. [:D]
i know cali is much stricter but i know a gutted cat passed NJ emissions. visual isnt a problem and it passed the sniffer. i probably lost the test result sheet but if i can find it i'll compare it to CARB requirements.

HELP ME!!!! haha, this just happened to someone else.. fuckin cats..

03-19-2006, 06:15 PM
yeah bummer but i am almost 100% sure that a gutted out cat will not pass the strict rules of cali emissions.
the reason why the cat is there is so it burnes off all the extra bad fumes and heat ad stuff it can right thats why there is all that cone stuff

Gutted cat would never pass NJ inspection.

It would only pass if you pay off a private inspector, (80-100)

What i would do is keep the cat on, get it inspected or renew it , then gut the cat and worry about it 2 years later.

Luckily for me i have dealer plates and they dont require your car to pass inspe ction ;)
