I have 542xx miles on my 2.8Q and the light just came on and it says, "service in 600 miles". Im guessing that is the 55k service...but im not sure. What does this service include? should I just do the timing belt?
help me out
thanks

Id change your air filter, plugs, timing belt, water pump, coolant temp sensor, tranny fluid, rear diff fluid and then call it a day. You should be set for the next 60k. Thats just what I would do IMO.

i thought you could wait till about 65K to do some of more serious stuff, like timing belt & water pump

Dont forget Radiator fluid, cabin air filter, and for a REALLY complete feel - Seafoam!

That and change your oil and while your doing that also get ECS's magnetic oil plug!

Now THAT is a complete day!

If you are wondering if there is something you NEED to do the short answer is no. There is a way to reset the Service light.

Instead of doing all this stuff at once maybe pick a few of the things listed above and learn how to do them yourself. That's what I did am now maintaince is a breeze (haven't done TB yet though)

According to the stealership, timing belt is changed at 105K miles and 80K miles is a major one as well.

I gota quote for $375 for my 55K service and it includes:
- oil, filter, tire rotation, "computer analysis" whatever that emans, dust and pollen filter and bracke check

ouch! Am I getting ripped off?

wow thats like 40 dollars worth of parts and 335 dollars worth of labor, which would take you like an hour

Why listen to the dealership? You've already found the forums...

Yes it's a rip off. Unless you are under warranty I say skip it all together and change your oil. For $375 you could buy a complete timing belt kit and have $75 towards paying a local mechanic install it. [up]
