My friends dad made a 2.5" exhaust for my car last week and added a magnaflow muffler and ATP 3" test pipe. It was louder than hell so he added a resonator. It was still loud so he added a second resonator and the car has no power at all now. He's going to take it back off tomorrow, but what else could I do to quiet it down? I can't stand the loud sound and I don't want my girlfriend or daughter to have suffer riding in it.

how big was the original mid muffler?
maybe going with the stock exhaust and a ves maybe a better solution for you. If noise is a problem while cruising.

It's all 2.5" except the test pipe and muffler inlet.

I got my TP installed last saturday and I got borla cat back.

It is like turbo is spooling next to my ear :)

it is kind a nice accually, and yeah it is louder than before.

should have went milltek.

i run stock cat with 2.5"DP to 2.75"exhaust no resonator. and mine is quiet, you can only tell i have exhaust by jumping on it...and even then its quiet compared to the rest.

your problem is the magnaflow muffler...they are loud...its a noise maker. and now you've restricted flow by doubling the resonators and muffler. i thought my car was louder than some of the stage 3 s4's when we went to the dyno. and thats only cuz they sounded quieter than stock. they all ran milltek.

not the inlet diameter. I was talking about the length of the mid muffler 12" 14" 16" 18"...
The magnaflow muffler is rumored to be louder than most. apex'i world sport is real quiet and uses 3" piping.

both are 18" straight thru

what other mufflers would quiet the car down? It's really quiet now, but slower than hell. I can watch the boost gauge slooowwwlllyyy climb.

well there is enough restiction with those 2 resonators, why not get a borla or supersprint muffler, maybe even a remus. all those have nice deep tones to them, unlike that fart cannon magnaflow.

BarryT82

yeah way too much restriction with the 2 resonators. The magnaflow I have is the 14862 I believe. Hell the only reason I got it is because of all the people on here praising it saying it wasn't that loud.

Maybe an oem s4 muffler?

naw...screw s4 muffler.

maybe remus or supersprint since your custom....you would have been better off with the milltek. but now that you got something...dunno. take off one of those resonators your putting a big clog on the system.

my vote is milltek. or stick this out and save up for a milltek system...you won't be disappointed.

ok, but does anyone have the milltek with a 3" test pipe? How loud is it then?

Has anyone tried the dynomax mufflers? The only people I can find running them are the TT guys. I found a thread saying that APR uses them on one of their exhausts as well.

dynomax 'ultraflow' works good.

remus makes good stuff, but it is pricey

After tomorrow I am just a full time college student so I need cheaper. I have a house payment so I need to save as much as I can. I wish the VA would get off there asses and process my gi-bill money.

Tomorrow I am having one of the resonators removed. Is there going to be a difference if I remove the rear one before the muffler vs the center one after the downpipe? Will it effect the car any differently or sound if it's in a different place?

I didn't know if the exhaust gases would build up in one area differently versus another since one is closer to the turbo.

i would remove the center one...you want the bottleneck as far away from the turbo as possible.

bunch of people run milltek with the ATP testpipe...its not much louder. you may get that occassional popping on downshifts but its still quiet compared to the rest. if i wasn't so lazy...i'd run the ATP test pipe already. I still may....i just don't wanna fool around to much with the O2 spacers and CEL codes. but a really want the ATP testpipe. its a double-edge sword for me.

barry would u be interestid in selling the resonator? what size piping is it

inline resonators shouldn't increase backpressure that much...

BarryT82
03-14-2006, 03:33 AM
oh it increased it. I don;t know how but it did.

make sure nothing is "wrong".

Where should I begin checking? I looked at both resonators before they were installed and they were both straight thru with a screen type thing in the middle with a bunch of holes.

MR VTEC
03-14-2006, 09:28 AM
my resonator on my teg didn't have any screen or obstructions in the path of the gases but the shell was preforated so it slows the exhaust some to quiet it down. Not sure if i'm describing it well.
When you look in the resonator you can see straight through it without any obstructions or screens... but the walls have little holes in it... I hope that explains it better [rolleyes]

it's coming off today so I'll look again. He may have picked the wrong one up and put the baffled one in. They were beside each other.

MR VTEC

he was baffled... [rolleyes]

no it's not baffled. He had baffled ones beside the ones I got. He took the one closest to the muffler off and it was still clogged. He took the front one off and it ran great. So he put the rear resonator back on and it still runs great. The front resonator was too close to the turbo I guess. They were both straight thru with little pin hole vent things that air could flow thru.

what about sound quality is it to your liking now?

BarryT82
03-14-2006, 05:25 PM
its ok, but it's still a little loud. I may buy a new exhaust.

Anyone have experience with the APR exhaust? How's sound? Is it quiet? I spoke with someone at APR and he was telling me all about it. I also looked into the milltek and I don't want to spend $1000.00 on it right now. I'm checking the classifieds daily on a few websites.

so what is in their currently?

what's in where? My car? 2.5" piping with resonator and magnaflow muffler.

I found a website today for streetgeektuning.com I called and they said they could make me one. The guy I spoke with said they make the audi sport exhausts for audi.
