View Full Version : Moving to Austin, inspection spots?

When I bought my S7 up here in Michigan I got put in a weird spot because I don't have an address here to register it or get temp tags and even though I have a physical address in Austin I'm not physically in TX to pick up an in transit (the 5-day in transit doesn't recognize my VIN). Anyhow playing by MI rules I've got 15 days to register the car which means immediately after my no plates, no registration road trip to TX I need to get emissions and safety done. Any recommendations for places to go? I don't think I'll need a full Audi dealer or even a full shop like Brink to look at it, but feel free to tell me if I'm wrong.

Correct! All you need is to bring it into an inspection place to get it verified. And they will give you a form to bring it to the county tax office to pay, info here https://www.txdmv.gov/motorists/buying-or-selling-a-vehicle/out-of-state-and-foreign-vehicles

Correct, any recommendations for inspection places in Austin? I'm not crazy about having the lube tech at Jiffy lube climb all over my car.

By the way, try joining a Facebook group called Audi club Austin, they probably will have better local info for you

I would totally let Mike and the BOIS look at your ride! I think they do state inspection which costs $7 no matter where you go.

I take mine to the Audi Dealership in South Austin, but only for inspections. ONLY because they cannot charge more than the 7-so dollars it cost for an inspection. You get free snacks, coffee, and drinks while there. Then you can always walk around the inventory. Or German Auto Center in North Austin.

Thanks I'll look them up when the time comes! Now I need to figure out how to get my Camaro to pass haha
