Hi,
I have a 2006 Audi B7 2.0T without the Bose system that I would like to replace with either a Pioneer*MVH-1400NEX or Pioneer MVH-4400NEX.
I see that there is**PAC RP4-AD11*adapter or similar and I can buy keys to remove the unit, I am wondering how difficult is it to install the microphone and route the iPhone cable myself?

Is this a DIY replacement or something you would recommend doing at a dealer/audio specialist? Any ideas for routing the Apple cable? The benefit of the second unit is that its wireless Car Play, so if this will make the install easier and save money taking it to the shop then I may as well get that unit.

Any recommendations will be much appreciated

Thank you,

It's a piece of cake to install, call Christian at Enfig and he'll sort you out with all the adapters etc. needed for the basic install. With all that it is virtually plug and play, no soldering, nothing, just plug in the harness and done.

Routing the microphone is easy, most people mount them in the factory location up by the sunroof controls. Going by memory here, but pry off the light cover and you should see 2 screws, undo those and pull the unit down, from there poke your microphone wire carefully above the headliner towards the windshield. Pull down the headliner carefully until you can pull the wire through, then feed it along the headliner and down the A-pillar (you can remove the A-pillar if you want, but not 100% required). Pop off the cover at the side of the glovebox and feed the wire across the top of the glovebox towards the back of the head unit. Here's a video: https://youtu.be/SK1itSwt4NA

Where do you want to route the iPhone cable? I have a Kenwood with 2 x USB outputs, I routed one to the glovebox, very simple to do, remove the 12-15 screws, 2 are underneath, 6 or so along the front lip and 4 in the rear, I think, from the glovebox (this may also make installing the microphone cable a little easier) and remove the glovebox. Route the iPhone cable through one of the cut outs at the back of the glovebox and re-install it, with it down would be a good time to zip tie up the microphone cable.

My 2nd USB output I installed in the front ashtray, makes it easy to plug my phone in while it sits in the cupholder. To do that with the head unit removed, slide out and unplug the climate control unit, remove the ashtray and cut a slot for the USB to go through. Feed the USB cable into there and then re-install the ashtray, climate control and head unit.

I definitely would not pay a shop to do the install, none of it is hard. The toughest piece will be getting the A-pillar back on if you decide to remove it, can be a pain to line up the clips as you can't see them.

Both good ideas for the USB cable. I routed mine into the center console/armrest. I removed some of the parts for the factory phone harness/mount and now have a USB-C connector going there. Good for hiding phone while plugged in.

First our radio package that is currently on a ridiculous sale.

https://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_SONY_XAV_AX5000_AUDI_KIT.html

You can also get just the parts here.

I usually break the power port under the elbow rest and put a female USB there.

Thanks - I bought the kit for the unit. For theUSb adapter to fit into the power port do you maybe have a picture and is there a part I can order so it looks neat?

Thanks
