I'm not a new to turbo cars. But lately I battle with two friends who also have turbo cars. I am thinking of boosting my stock 18.t avanti to 1 bar. A friend of mine said I would need a chip in order to break the limit set by the ECU. The other friend of mine said he didn't need one in his previous 1.8T.

What's going on in here? Does Audi use fussy logic ECU? Or does the boostcontroller work without using a chip?

Can someone here englighten me?

I didn't know they made 1.8ts in 1996!

as far as i know they are only available in other countries

especially in an avant...

a chip would be better if you can find a tuner...

chip mate, I would hate to see what the stock chip would do under 14-15psi with the boostcontroler.

Chip is the better option. A boost controler will do nothing to increase fueling or timing etc.

thanks guys. My previous cars evo III & GTR R33 could both take on uplifted boost without the need of ECU mapping.

It was later mapped (with an replacement of motec) because of the larger turbo...

you can use a MBC, but doesnt make it a good idea.

youll need to get a chip so the ecu can actually work with the higher boost levels. if it doesnt have the extra fuel or timing, your extra boost is almost worthless.

Thanks guys for the input.

I spoke with this tuner in Hong Kong. he claimed that the boost can be set to 14psi (1bar) to the extent the stock injectors can max out and according to him, he has run the same on his car for a couple of years without a problem for 1996 model.

So I will probably get a electronic boost controller… the problems I have now is leaving the other of my car (BMW 3series) in the garage where I am now in China while part-outing those parts in HK which is managed by the local shop owner....However I managed to sell everything on one day…(posted on a local car selling website)..

I am hopeful that I can sell the parts (which I am getting) for Audi as fast as the Bimmer in the future..

As far as price goes, the performance Audi parts are much more expensive than BM's !!!

As we grow, our preferences for everything change - car being a particular item. There have been BM and Merc E-class act in-between before Audi.

European cars are just different.
