I was looking to install a Rennline phone mount, which requires removing the MMI trim and center vent. There's a video for the B8 that makes it look really simple to remove the center vent. I'm wondering if it's different on the B8.5 because I cannot seem to remove that sucker????

Any ideas or special tools needed??

I actually did it yesterday thinking I needed to in order to access the key module... turns out I didn't [emoji2359]

Anyway, my loss your gain:

remove the dashboard trim which covers the upper part of the vent, then remove the MMI...
Now pull on the lower part of the vent and it should easily come out.

Interesting, the video on the B8 shows you remove the vent from the top (as opposed to bottom) ? Maybe that's the whole issue...

Holy crap! You are a lifesaver; here I was prying forever on the top. Removed MMI, pulled the vent right out from the bottom without issues. I'm sending an email to Rennline; their instructions suck!!

Thank you!!

And now my MMI removal keys are stuck, wtf?!Now, that...also happened to me... [emoji1]
I wrapped them so that they don't just when pulling on them, put the MMI back and then pulled on them with reasonable force... and in the end they did come out...

I had to pry at the springs with a tiny screwdriver to eventually be able to pull out the keys. 10min project turned into a 2 hour nightmare!! What a waste of time!! But hey, I have a magnetic phone mount now LOL !!!

You're installing part of the mount behind the vents vs using an adhesive on the dash...or something else? curious...

Watch the video from post #3.Gotcha, thanks. I just use a holder that slips into the CD player since I can't remember the last time I used that, haha.

Their mounts are pricey but very solid; they machine the parts for the particular model of car. I have one in my Porsche and loved it so much I bought one for the S4 as well. They're magnetic too so not phone specific.

Now their installation instructions on the other hand need some serious help...
