1) I re-coded my battery

2) I did not re-code my battery and have had no problems

3) I did not re-code my battery and had issues

When I replaced my Battery (Energy management NOT active) - I kept a 12v supply across the terminals under the bonnet (hood) whilst I swapped the battery in the boot (trunk).
So the car never knew that the battery had been replaced.

Correct. You want the car to know it has a new battery. Ive coded and not coded in different audis. Its possible theres some monute difference in charging but nothing i can notice

I replaced with OEM battery from dealer, my battery gauge shows 50%, which is the indicator of my old battery. I had to recode to bring it up to 💯 %

It would have gone up to 100% on its own but no harm in coding

Still don’t understand why people don’t do the coding? The VAG engineers created this coding stuffs for fun? If you don’t have a battery with a BEM code just change the last digit. If you don’t own a VAGCOM or at least a clone VagCom, or obd11 perhaps, you shouldn’t be doing any DiY.🤔

For me i did it on one car and not on a few others. Just never bothered. No bighie since no difference. Yeah its no big deal to do it. It wasnt needed for me though.

I did it, as its the right thing to do instead of guessing.

Yes, if the old battery is "faulty".
I replaced like for like, nothing wrong with the old battery. Preventative maintenance as eight years old.
Remember in UK we have the AGM batteries fitted, which last much longer.
In any event, it is well documented that the car soon learns and adapts to the new battery.
Re-coding just takes it out of energy saving mode straight away.
There is also the possibility of "Normal" and AGM batteries being swapped, which would definitely require coding.
Cars for Europe (AGM) will be coded differently to USA (conventional lead/acid).

Yup ive uses agm batteries in 6 of my audis without issue. Work great and saved 20lbs. I think i coded one of them. No issues with any.

Did you ever think that most owners do not possess or have easy access to a Vag-Com, Obleven or Carista. Since the car will eventually adapt on its own, why bother. The end result will be the same.

Agreed. Plus, my Audi stealership quoted me nearly $500 to replace and code a new battery. Needless to say, I just got my own new battery and moved on. This was August 2018.

That being said, does Carista allow recoding or only VAGCOM?

Carista don’t do battery coding. You’ll need Vagcom or obd11
