Hi everyone!

When I bought my '08 A4, the previous owner tinted the windows, of which I was not a fan. So, I took it to a local tint shop this past summer to get the tint removed. Now that the weather is getting colder, I notice that when I turn on the rear defroster, only a very small portion of the grid defrosts (near the bottom). Since the rear defroster was working just fine before the tint removal, I'm assuming the shop did a not-so-great removal job (when you want something done right, do it yourself, amiright?).

So, my question to the forum-folk is this: is there any way to repair the rear defrost grid, or do I need to replace the entire rear window? [o_o]

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I'd take it back to the shop and get them to cover it.

Yes it can be repaired. You have to find the " cut" section then you can bridge it..
I think you should be able to get repair kits on line

It’s actually nearly impossible to remove without damaging the grid. But there are lots to repair it.

You are basically re-drawing the grid in the rear window with the repair. Permatex and others make an conductive paint. Id go back to the tint shop first and rip them a new one for damaging the defroster.

Not helpful and only loosely related: I miss the old defrost grids of the 80's/90's Quattros. Those spelled out "QUATTRO" in big 'ol letters of the right font, right along the bottom of the window. Looked pretty cool when defrosting the frosted glass.

There are simple procedures of removing rear tint w/o damaging the defroster, as most pros and tint shop would know. Obviously the minions that worked on you car f'd it up.
