I am looking for suggestions. My wife and I are in AZ, my brother-in-law in CA. We are planning a getaway for us adults, leave those pesky teenagers at home. The guys... we want good food and whiskey. The girls, well they wanna shop. We are in our late 30's early 40s and looking for a quick weekend away. What do you all suggest?

Ideas we have been tossing around are Nashville or Austin. We are thinking sometime in March 2020. Music festivals can be fun. Other outdoor events, like classic car shows. Sports are not important.

I would pick Austin - https://www.sxsw.com/ - Plan earlier because everything books up fast... a few decent resorts in the area: https://www.omnihotels.com/hotels/austin-barton-creek or https://www.lakewayresortandspa.com (a lil further out) aren't bad choices... enjoy!!!

Well, we ended up on locking in March 12-16, flying into Dallas (Lovefield).

Now its matter of lodging. Any dodgy places to stay away from?

Leaning towards some of the downtown and Galleria areas, more likely downtown.

How's the light rail system? If we are out late, drinkin and having a good time, are multiple lines running to catch a ride? We will have a rental, but why drive when you can walk or catch a cheap local transportation...

SXSW is a hard NOPE. Used to be a good festival but now "everybody" has to go. Over crowded, overpriced and too much dumbness.
