View Full Version : Rear armrest trouble + heated steering wheel issue

Recently picked up a 14 A6 3.0T Prestige and there are two issues
First, if you pull the center rear armrest down, the entire armrest, plus the locking panel that prevents unwanted access from the trunk to the main cabin, comes down as well. This is because the spring lever/slide on the trunk side of the armrest is stuck. It will neither go up nor down so the corresponding latches on the armrest door, will not move upwards toward the package shelf. Any thoughts on how to unstick them?
Second, when I turn on the heated steering wheel, it barely even gets warm. First world problem I know but i'd like to fix it if possible
Thanks

On the passthrough, there's a small square "button" on the back, driver's side a few inches from the top of the passthrough. That causes the two locking tabs to pop up, so you can try manually triggering that to see if the mechanism is working (just in case it isn't obvious, don't try closing the passthrough with the tabs up). You can narrow your troubleshooting from there, hopefully that's a little helpful.
The steering wheel sounds normal. From the factory, they really should describe it as a warmed steering wheel, and it doesn't help that, like the climate control, the car seems to vary the temperature and how long it stays on based on conditions it "sees". If you have access to VCDS, you can increase the temperature by going to the Steering Wheel Module (16), then Adaptions, then Channel 10, and punch a target temperature. Stock is 29℃ IIRC, 31℃ or so should start feeling more like you'd expect.
RE: Heated steering wheel.
I've heard of this before years ago although I find mine to be warm enough as bahula pointed out you can adjust it some in VCDS.
I'm sure it is a safety thing they don't want someone to let go of the wheel cause it is too hot (not that 31ºC is that hot), but nonetheless since everyone's hands are different they erred to the cooler side of "warm".

Thought this would help because I followed the video and it was better then other videos encourage you to bend the hinges in and risking you to snap the hinges!
I was searching ages for a tutorial video and I think this covers everything.

You can adjust the level of heat for steering wheel if you have VCDS

Interesting with the steering wheel. I have to turn mine off after 10 minutes because it becomes uncomfortable to hold.

Huh interesting, I have the same car as you and I find during our winters it's not enough!
