View Full Version : Low coolant warning

About once a day, I get a warning that the coolant is low and then it disappears. The coolant is not low and I've had a dealer look at it and replace the reservoir and other parts. Do you have any idea what could be the cause?
Next best guess would be wiring. Since afaik the level sensor would work off of resistance so if too high or too low or intermittent connection you get the light.
Post up vehicle details and pull codes so maybe someone else can give more insight.

I’m aware of a level sensor that plugs into the reservoir- perhaps that sensor is damaged? I recently replaced the thermostat and main coolant pump on my car- going through the shop manual, the only other coolant sensors I’ve noticed are various temperature sensors.

Your are a tiny bit low, I would check it first thing on the morning. Probably after it heats up it pushes some coolant back and tricks the sensor into thinking it’s full full. You may be missing only a tiny bit. I had the same issue. Just put a little bit in it and I’m sure the coolant light will stop coming on. Also keep an eye for leaks as coolant doesn’t evaporate if it’s low it’s probably leaking.

15 Phantom S6, how exactly does his washer fluid impact the engine coolant?

LoL, no relationship between the two.. I was thinking washer fluid even though I was reading engine coolant..

I believe the level sensor is integrated into the reservoir, and OP had the reservoir replaced.

You sure? I'm pretty sure when mine came apart they were separate.

Pretty sure.
See in the pic the lower left you can see the electrical connector and the two contacts for the sensor built into the reservoir. Wiring harness plugs in there.

That seems pretty sure lol. I’m old, don’t recall everything anymore
