Minimum drone test pipe aftermarket exhaust

Would AWE touring or Borla be the best options for an aftermarket CBE (I don’t need downpipes) with minimal drone?

My borla exhaust with the 11386 in the downpipes is pretty mellow for catless. I think AWE sounds better but it's definitely louder

That’s kind of what I was thinking as well. I have an 11385 in my downpipes now with the stock mufflers and I’d like something a little more aggressive but I do not want drone.

Interesting, because I haven’t noticed much in the area of drone with my current set up. I had severe drawn previously when I just had two of the 11385 resonator and muffler deletes. In my opinion, the setup I have today has so little drone that I would classify it as negligible. I just want something with more aggressive tone and more volume.

That’s kind of what I was thinking as well. I have an 11385 in my downpipes now with the stock mufflers and I’d like something a little more aggressive but I do not want drone.Borla mufflers seem to cancel out a lot of drone. At one point I deleted the mufflers (before I went catless) and it was unbearably loud

What did you have before? The stock mufflers by far had the least drone of the 10+/- setups I’ve had. Goes to show that drone is subjective

@jackal - are you sure your 11385 hasn’t blown out yet? Mine sounded hollow after a few thousand miles although it was the best sound catless setup I had when paired to AWE touring. You don’t have many options if you want to keep your Downpipes. What about a 11385 in place of your center reso as well?

So to be fair I don't have a ton of experience, but I currently have stock mufflers and an 11385 and drone.

And I noticed the drone came back when I switched from the milltek back to stock on my last car

Good question. I don't think it has blown out. I've been through a lot of different setups as have other members here and the car sounded pretty good when I had two 11385 resonators and muffler deletes before test pipes. After the test pipes, the drone was just unbearable even with two 11385 units in place so I kept the 11385 in the downpipes, then installed a stock set of rear mufflers with the center resonator deleted. There's really no drone anymore so that's all good, but I do like the way the AWE sounds. I ended up pulling the trigger on a set last night so I guess I will see soon enough how much drone there actually is.

if you like the sound of the AWE Touring mate that to a Borla Pro XS reso x pipe in the downpipes. bigger and better construction than the 11385. i suggested to to someone local to me after all of my trials and tribulations (and my 11385 completely blowing out) and he is really happy with it. just an idea

Im going to be doing this exact thing if i can ever get around to it, could always meet up (JACKAL) and see what it sounds like after I do. Going to be jhm test pipes to stock downpipes to borla to AWE touring.

Might be irrelevant as I drive a Q5 that is catless, but I have AWE non res downpipes and those are what cause my drone for the most part. I had the downpipes put on and got a little bit of drone, and after going catless I have no extra drone from the test pipes.

I really hope so! I've had so many different exhaust setups that the guys at the local muffler shop just roll their eyes and smile when I show up now [rolleyes]
