Two weeks ago i started my car and put it in reverse to back out of the drive way. I noticed that the rear view display wasn't on (screen was blank). I put the car in gear and start driving and nothing. I try a hard reset by via reset sequence. I can hear the system power down, but now nothing it starting up. I was in a hurry so I continued driving. Over the next hour I'm trying the reset maybe once every 15 minutes. Each time I can hear something power down but nothing comes up. Then all of a sudden after another reset attempt, it starts up and everything works like normal. It didn't happen since.

Today I start my car and mmi starts up, i put on the radio. everything is normal at first, but then the sound cuts out. the display still works, i can see radio stations selected and the volume level is up. No sound. I switch over to media and play a video on my phone and i can see the MMI is tracking the time of the youtube video i'm playing, but no sound at all. Volume maxed on phone and MMI, still nothing. I restarted the car and everything works again.

Common symptom of MMI dying or is there something else I can troubleshoot?

Following this. I went through the same problem. Currently in the process of changing the whole system but apparently I'll need to go to dealer to unlock it because the replacement is locked to a specific VIN.

My MMI would turn on for 3 seconds on the loading screen and then shut off and not turn back on. Reset would make a noise but screen won't come on. I cannot even change the screen on my dashboard (song selection).

Something in the MOST loop has probably failed - worth doing an optical check first to see which module has crapped out
