Hey all, looking to get into a C7.5 A7 to replace my BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe that got totaled recently (nailed at an intersection). Wife needs more leg room. [>_<]

Anywho, I found this Dakota Gray Metallic A7 on Carmax and curious if anybody knows the history? Looks tastefully modded and from the photos it's got an APR UC. I don't usually ever consider buying a modded car because it usually means an uncertain history, but again "tastefully modded". Curious if anybody knows who owned it and why it was traded in. Thoughts? (Link - https://www.carmax.com/car/17599349)

Call an Audi dealer with the VIN number and get its history and verify it is not TD1 so you still have warranty coverage up to 50K.
I did this and found out the full history and the fact that it was cover under Audi Care as well [:D]

Interesting, good idea. Any idea what ext warranty cost? I was thinking about maxcare. Also, why verify it's not a TDI? What's the story behind that? =) I'm an Audi newb... but learning a lot surfing the forums.

TD1 is voided warranty and AUDI giving you the middle finger.

TD1 is the mark of the beast for Audi. If you put a tune in the ECU and Audi finds it then it gets TD1 status which means the drivetrain warranty is void. You might be able to find an aftermarket warranty that does not care about TD1 status. Audi extended warranty is void once it gets TD1 status.
Audi might give it TD1 status just from the intake tube. They seem to love to bust balls over even little shit.

That explains why there's so many good deals on those. I was sticking to the 3.0t for the ease of maintenance and reliability. I still plan to warranty it up to 100k and likely get something new by that time happens.

That's what I was hoping. Hoping he can give me the skinny. I know plenty of friends that traded their cars into carmax because it was beat and there was a hidden issue. Curious if that was the case. If it's perfect, I think I may have found my next baby.

This a7 is 2016 so 4 year/50k miles warranty will expired anytime soon defend on when the car was purchased.

you were right until you said this. if your dealer said theyll do this...find a new dealer. its only based off a scan of the ecu during service. something that is typically required to be submitted with anything relating to warranty.

It was my understanding that TD1 is flagged electronically automatically when a car is plugged in to be scanned to the Audi diagnostic tool. It's usually not a manual flag (there's a separate flag for that, I believe).
Check if your dealer is "mod-friendly". Some are, others are not. Based on your research (I suggest the regional forum as a good resource), I'd move on from there.
Best of luck!
